CHAPTER 4

I woke up to someone shaking my shoulder, I slowly opened my eyes, it was still dark in my room but I could just make out my dad's face. His eyes were red a puffy, he looked like he'd been crying, my dad never cried. I started to freak out immediately, I knew something was wrong.

"Dad, what's happened?" I asked cautiously he wouldn't look me in the eye. I glanced at my clock and realised it was 3am.

"I need you to go and wake up Connor for me," he didn't say anything else after than he just left my room and padded down stairs. I was seriously scared, I'd never seen him like this before, tears started to stream down my face as my brain raced through the possibilities. I jumped out of bed and ran across the landing, as I opened Connors door I tried to be as quiet as possible in order not to wake up Tristan.

I tip-toed across the room and over to Connor's bed, he was sleeping peacefully with Tristan lying next to him. They both looked adorable when they were asleep. I began to shake Connor's shoulder and he stirred slightly but didn't wake up, I did it again but he still didn't wake up. I knew one way which would definitely get him up so I bent down until I was level with his head a blew into my ear. His eyes opened immediately.

"What the hell do you want?" Connor whispered harshly, he then noticed the tears dripping down my face and his expression turned from anger to concern. "Elle, what's happened? Are you okay?"

I didn't reply, I just grabbed his hand and pulled him out of bed, he willingly came with me and followed me as I walked down the stairs. We found dad in the kitchen, his head was on the table and Ann was standing behind him patting his back. Connor gave me a confused look but he knew as much as I did. Dad heard us come in and looked up, tears were pouring down his face.

"Dad, please tell us what's happened?" I pleaded, he looked at me and opened his mouth to talk.

"I... I can't" he whispered his voice cracked, he looked at Ann and nodded at her.

"Elle, your mother was in an accident," my whole body froze, my heart stopped, Ann stopped talking, she must had noticed the colour drain from my face. I thought I'd been through everything but I never imagined anything would happen to my mother.

"But she's alive right?" I managed to say after a moment's silence. No body looked at me, I turned towards Connor, his eyes were tearing up, why was he crying? He didn't even know her, he had no right to cry. I could feel feel the anger rise up inside of me, this was always my reaction to bad news.

"I'm so sorry, it's my fault, I should have stayed to help the removal men, not her, she wouldn't have died otherwise, it's completely my fault." My dad cried, he looked terrible.

"Don't you dare blame this on yourself," I said, I was surprised at how harsh my voice sounded. "How did it happen?"

"She was on her way over here and the car broke down. She had managed to get it to the side of the road but a lorry driver lost control of the lorry and it hit her car." My dad said finally looking me in the eye. I could see how much this was hurting him, I couldn't take it, I needed air.

"I... I need some air," I mumbled as I turned to leave the room.

"It's 3am" Connor stated.

"I know, I won't go far." I left the house shutting the door behind me. I ran down the road, trying to get as far away as possible. I remembered yesterday and went to the park. When I got there I stopped walking, I stood looking out at he fields around me. My legs buckled and I fell to the floor, I curled into a ball and cried my eyes out. "Typical" I whispered under my breath. Just as someone new enters my life someone else has leave it.
