Sup! So I just decided to write this, it's from my personal experience in the tornado on May 22nd, in Joplin, MO. I don't live there anymore.
PS: I've changed names of the people in this, you know, to protect them or whatever.
PPS: I'm sorry if I've made this too graphic or whatever, I'm just telling my story.
Okay, now that that's out of the way, let's start with the morning of that day.
It was Sunday, and I was home alone. Why? Because my parents and younger brother and sister went fishing. I didn't go with them because I had a big math assignment due on Monday, so I opted to stay home and finish.
After they left, I sat around lazily and didn't do my homework. Give me a break, they left around 10 am and wouldn't be back until later, so I had plenty of time to stall by playing the PS3.
Around 3 pm I got hungry. So I drove up to the convenient store (which was destroyed, but I heard it's being rebuilt now) and bought a bag of chips and a big bottle of Dr. Pepper. As I was paying, I heard the radio talking in the background: "Currently there is a tornado warning for the following counties..." It then listed the counties, and I listened for mine.
Of course it said mine, but I didn't think anything of it. It happens a lot. "Huh." I said.
The cashier looked at me while I handed her the money and said, "Yeah. Be careful."
I smiled at her because she was being nice and thoughtful, even though at the time I didn't think anything was going to happen. "You too." Then I left and went home.
Right! Soooo, when I got home I got out of my car and got a text from my best friend Lyle. He lived up the street from me (By up the street I mean that he lived on the north corner, and I lived on the south. It was also a very long street) ,and was as close as a brother.
His text told me to be careful and that there was a tornado warning for our county. I texted him back and thanked him and then I tried to assure him that nothing would happen.
Lyle of course was still cautious, and told me to put some pillows in the bathroom anyways.
I sighed knowing that I would never win and put some of my pillows in bathroom. Then I got back on the PS3. It was about 4 pm by then.
I played some stuff online for a long time, and around 4:40 I got a call from my Mom. "Yes?" I answered.
"Everything okay?"
"Yep."
"Okay. We're going to come home soon because the weather's getting stormy out here, how is it at home?"
"It's pretty good. Windy, but good." I said while looking out the window. The sky had a few scattered clouds, but the wind was strong.
"Yeah. There's a tornado warning out right?" She asked.
"Yup. I put some pillows in the bathroom just in case."
"Okay. I'm going to help your Dad get the boat on the trailer. We should be back in about an hour."
"Kay. Love you guys."
"Love you too. Bye."
That was the last contact I had from my Mom until later.
4:55 pm, I got my homework out and started working. At the time all I was thinking was, Oh my gosh I hate math.
I was sitting at the table and working on an equation when I noticed that the room had began to darken. I had the blinds open, but the sky seemed to be getting darker now. The clouds were coming in fast. I turned on a light, and began walking back towards the table when I heard them.
