"Wake up! Wake up!"
My little sister screamed in my ear. I simply turned on my side throwing a pillow over my head to try and drown her voice out. Sadly, the pillow was doing no justice.
"Rae, what time is it?"
I asked my sister who was, still, bouncing up and down on the end of my bed.
"Ali, it is exactly 6:15 am."
"And can you tell me why my 15 year old sister is bouncing up and down on my bed telling me it is time to wake up?"
Life with Rae hasn't always been easy. I mean we are sisters, but she gets on my nerves like no other, and this morning was no exception.
"Because Alice Marie, it is September 7th. Which means in exactly 2 hours I will be starting 9th grade and you will be.."
"A senior in high school." I finished for her.
This year unlike any other was the year I was looking forward too. I would finally be able to step out and taste the fresh air without my mother half a step behind me pointing me in the "right direction". This year I will be able to pick a college far far far away from here.
"That is correct! That means we will going to the same school, which means I will be going to the same school as Alex Parker!" She let out a tiny squeal.
"Oh honey, He is nothing compared to Max Cape."
We both start laughing and I let out a long sigh.
"But on the real though, Help!" Rae cried.
I was happy to help. We may but heads but, she is still my sister and I wouldn't trade her for the world.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We pulled up to school around 7:50, Rae belting out lyrics to Dibs by Kelsea Ballerini in the passenger seat of my blue Chevy pickup.
I shut off the truck and hop out grabbing my bag and headed to the front office with Rae by my side babbling on about how great high school was going to be.
I'm only half listening and nodding my head in agreement. My eyes scanning the crowd outside the school looking for my best friend.
"Alice Marie Dawson!"
"And there she is." I think to myself.
I let out a laugh and told Rae to go ahead to the office and get her schedule and to find me later.
"Haylee Carter Korn!" I shout turning around.
Haylee Korn, my best friend for the past 15 years, and still going strong.
"How are you? I feel like it's been ages Ali." Haylee said with a little frown.
"13 days to be exact." I say, making pouting lips.
Haylee and her family had gone on a vacation to Maui this summer. It was planned that I go too, but my ever so wonderful mother had forced me to stay home.
"Too long if I do say so myself." I add.
I chuckle a little and link arms with her. We head off toward the main office to get our schedules.
But before we could even make it in the building I heard something.
"Hey Alice!"
Haylee looks at me with a shocked glance and I already knew what she was thinking.
That voice belongs to the one and only,
Max Cape.
