Dad backed to further into the kitchen, picking up a kitchen knife he threatened to stab the wolf if he got any closer, Lyali just looked at me, I laughed “don’t worry Lyali, he wont hurt you”
“Why are you talking to the beast” “he cant understand you”
“Actually, we can understand eachother”
He dropped the knife in astonishment “how is that possible” he said “I mean, its rumoured that certain people are able to talk to creatures, but the last one that was able to speak to a dire wolf was a thousand years ago”, he looked at me then looked at the wolf and then noticed that both me and the dire wolf has deep blue eyes.
It is unnatural for an elf to have blue eyes, the common eye colour is green and it has been like that for thousands of years. It took me a long time to realise why I was different, why everyone thought I was a freak, it was because I had blue eyes.
Dad ran out the door and headed to the wise old man, who was the chief of the camp, he was gone for a long time I didn’t know what he was doing or what he was saying, but I was hoping he would let me keep the dire wolf. He was gone for a couple of hours and during those hours me and the dire wolf sat across from each other and made light conversations. My brother Kortashe sat there listening to me and the dire wolf talking, the look on his face kinda told me that he was trying to figure out what me and the wolf were saying. Dad finally came home but he wasn’t alone, he had the chief close behind him, when they reached the room that me and the wolf were in the wise old man looked at me and said “your father told me you can speak to the dire wolf, is that true?”
“yea, I don’t know how it happened, but it just did”
“when did you figure out that you were able to speak to the wolf?”
“it happened when I was out hunting down the rainbow bird”
“hmmmmm..... strange, very strange”
“am I aloud to keep him?”
“I don’t see why not”
With that, Lyali, my pet dire wolf, jumped on me and licked my face then ran to the old man and rubbed his neck on the man’s leg. The look on my brothers face was happy as well, in all the years iv seen my brother never once have I seen him with a grin on his face when I got something that I wanted.
Later that night Trysumfera, the wise old man, had summoned everyone to the middle of the campsite in recognition of the dire wolf and me uniting, everyone brought the food that they caught, I brought the iron tusk boar and I got Lyali to carry the rainbow bird into the middle where the rest of the food was being put. We ate and drunk and partied till the sun rose up over the mountains, by seven O’clock the campsite was just about cleared, everyone cleaned up the left over’s and headed back to their home to get some sleep before going out to practice.
It was about midday when Lyali woke me up, I stumbled out of my bed and walked outside to feel the sun on my face, on the far left I could see people lining up in front of the targets, and to my right I could see people practicing their knife skills with wooden practice knifes. “why don’t you go see if you can join the hunt?” I heard Lyali say, I shrugged my shoulders and headed over to the captain who was giving people orders and errands.
“Get this to Ravenfell as quickly as possible” the captain said to the errand boy
“excuse me sir?” I said
“what you want?”
“I wanted to know if I could join the hunt?”
“does your dad know about this?”
