Zero:
I felt an annoying pang in my thigh and realized I still had the pills and stake I stole.
Markus was on his back looking up at the sky when I threw to him his bottle of precious drugs.
His face changed slightly to something unreadable, everything on half his face pulled down. "You'll probably need them more than me."
Markus seemed unsure of what to do so he grabbed the pill bottle and shoved a couple down his throat. I did nothing but sigh deeply.
Because he keeps postponing it, without those pills he could be a monster every night for the rest of his life. Sounds like my life. It made my body weak to think about. Another demon, even him, he worked so hard to stop being a demon, he risked the chance of become a full fledged one for eternity.
I stood up and was about to leave when Markus interrupted me, "...thank you."
It was something he had never said before, espeically not to me. I turned back to look at him for half a second, then walked off into the trees, not looking back.
Something inside my chest lurched that day, a feeling that I hadn't felt for what seems like forever. Something in another language. It was not rage or lust or ambition, but something pure. It was warm and unlike anything my dead, cold heart had ever experienced. Not quite love nor friendship.
None of it made sense.Graitude. Or .... empathy perhaps.
