I walked amongst the horde of students as I tediously walked through the heavy front doors of the high school, wishing that I was anywhere but here.

Between the funeral and this very moment, I had done nothing but bury myself under the covers of my cozy, warm bed as I silently wallowed in my sorrows, wishing for nothing except for at least one more moment with Audrey.

As I strode through the halls of the school shrouded in a sense of numbness, I looked down at the woven bracelet that decorated my wrist and thought of the matching one that was buried with Audrey.

Today, I would be alone.

Slowly approaching my locker, I carefully spun the lock attached to its door and entered the familiar combination.

Opening the door, I was overwhelmed as I remembered the abundance of photos that adorned the inside of my locker. Images of Audrey, Corey and I were scattered throughout.

Quickly I unpacked my backpack and grabbed my books for the first class of the day. Slamming the door shut, I raced to find Corey's locker, where our group of friends usually met.

As I advanced toward the group, I saw Corey, Chloe, and Ethan talking amongst themselves. Chloe outstretched her arms to greet me, enclosing me in her embrace. Pulling away, she gave me a delicate smile. "How are you holding, honey?" she asked.

"I opened my locker and I forgot that it's full of pictures of me and Audrey," I explained.

"Yeah, it's really weird now that she's gone," Ethan stated, "considering that she's lived three houses down from me my entire life. And now I don't even get to talk to her at the bus stop in the mornings."

Corey put his arm around my shoulder and gently stroked my arm, "It's so strange being single again because I was with her for so long. It feels like a part of me is missing."

"Audrey and I were good friends, but it's not like I was nearly as close with her as you were, Kara. We talked at school and we hung out at social events every now and then, but that was about it," Chloe said, trying to contribute to the conversation.

I had hung out with Chloe on several occasions, but she wasn't super close to Audrey like the rest of us were.

The sound of the bell resonated through the halls, signaling that it was time to go to class. The four of us said our goodbyes and rushed off to class.

Walking out of my last class of the day, I was about ready to collapse. I barely paid attention in any of my classes, and I received my load of make-up work that I did not feel like doing from the week of school that I had missed.

Shuffling back toward my locker, I was startled by the scene that was occurring. Standing in front of my locker, I saw Tyler talking to one of the more popular girls in the freshman class, Lilly Barnes.

Observing the incident transpiring before me, my heart sank.

Tyler stood across from her idly while Lilly leaned in close to him, running her long, thin fingers through his dark, perfectly swooped hair. As she raised her fragile hand and placed it onto his chest, Lilly tossed her head back in laughter, her mesmerizingly straight buff brown hair falling down her back.

She revealed a large smile and continued her conversation with Tyler, continuing to lean closer to him and touch him flirtatiously, even though he looked rather uncomfortable.
