Marzia's quiet footsteps echoed throughout the dimly lighted house, creating an eerie atmosphere.
She slowed her breathing, feeling goosebumps cover her pale skin.
Her hand slowly reached out to the doorknob, and rested there, and she made the final step to the door.
She stretched her legs and stood on her tip-toes, shutting one eye and looking through the peep hole of the door.
She saw no one there.
;
The sun rose in a quickly matter, filling the sky with orange, pink, and purple.
The colors swirled together, and contrasted to make the world look a bit more harmless.
Marzia rose a half hour before dawn, she craved to see the world's facade.
Her alarm sounded at five thirty, but she had already been awoken at five, being forced to get an early start.
She sat out on the patio, with a cup of tea, her phone, and the latest horror novel she invested herself in.
It was quiet, the birds had not awoken quite yet.
She had sat with her eyes closed for a good five minutes, before hearing her first rustle of leaves, followed by a bird chirp.
She opened her eyes slowly, to see the horizon being painted a lighter blue.
The world moved too fast.
The next thing she knew the sun was over the trees, lighting up the whole world. Her whole world.
She sighed softly and stood up, hearing a familiar sound of scraping against concrete.
She looked down, and saw Maya looking up at her with excited eyes. Or, excited eye.
"Let's go." She said softly, reaching down to lift up the plump pug.
Suddenly, Maya jerked her head around, and let out several violent barks.
Marzia jumped up and screamed, closing her eyes and letting out a sigh.
"Maya!" She said loudly, walking after the dog.
The cream pug jumped up against the pale grey fence, clawing and barking.
"Maya! You're going to wake up the neighbors!" She scolded, picking up the dog.
Maya stopped barking, but there was still a barking coming from the other side of the fence.
Marzia set Maya down and shooed her away from the fence, wanting to investigate.
There weren't any other dogs in the neighborhood.
She pulled her patio chair over to the fence and carefully climbed onto it, grabbing the top of the tall fence.
Standing on her tip-toes, she peered over the fence to see a black pug, growling slightly.
She hopped off of the chair and opened the gate, letting the little pug in.
The black dog strutted in with a large ego, only to stop when Maya started barking again.
Both of the pugs stopped, hearing the doorbell from inside.
"Ugh, be right back."
She moved back, her feet slapping against the cold tile floor.
She pushed open the glass door, and only saw one pug on the patio.
"Maya, where'd the other dog go?" She frowned, pushing the door a bit more.
Maya just walked into the flat, almost ignoring Marzia's voice.
She shrugged and grabbed her phone, making her way inside the house.
