Chapter 9
Stingy

Jordan

I just got off the phone with Juliet. I really wanted to go see her. I had bought a plane ticket to go in everything. I was thinking about bailing. Why? I was in love with my wife. She did not return my love and in a year we would be over with. Well pretty soon here. Around February it would be over with. I was not really ready to let her go.

She became my best friend. We could always talk to each other. She understood me so well. So much better than Evelyn ever had. I did know I loved her. With all my heart. I knew by telling her I was going to ruin our friendship we had. I did not want to lose her in anyway. I needed her in my life so badly.

I drank down a glass of whisky. Jules would not approve of my drinking. She would ask why I was drinking. And did it make me feel better? Hell no it did not make me feel better. I started having flash backs to our wedding night. Making love to her.

I saw flashes in my dreams of her holding onto me with such passion it caused my body to shake at times. She was beautiful. I wanted her. I wanted to remember it all the next time. Only there would not be a next time. My phone rang. It was Mark the shark who was after my girl. He admitted he was going after Jules once we filled out the divorce papers. I did not say a thing back.

"Hey" I answer the phone.

"Are you coming to see Jules and Alyssa for thanksgiving?" he demands to know.

"Why the hell should I tell you if I am or not?" I demand feeling anger come over me that he was coming.

"Dude stop being such a jealous prick. Get your head out of your ass and think about Jules for once will you? She went out of her way to invite you. You need to be a gentlemen tell her yes or no. Be a man" he demands. He was right. I was stringing her along.

"I figured she probably wants to get the divorce rolling so why come? I could send the papers to her" I sigh.

"Is that what the problem is? Dude you really need to talk to her" he grumbles.

"Why what is going on?" I ask curiously. It sounded like Mark knew something about Jules that I did not know about.

"It is not my place for me to tell you" he remarks.

"Let me guess she told you but she could not tell her husband?" I snap feeling my anger control me again.

"Stop being a dick. Call her" he demands as he hangs up on me. He was right. I was kind of being a dick. I sigh. I grab my phone. I look down at Jules phone number. Her pretty face smiled back. Who knew maybe this would be the last time I got to see her after we get divorced. Maybe this is my last chance with her. Could I really pass this up? No. I call her back.

"Jordan?" she asks sounding happy to hear from me.

"Hi there Jules. I have some good news for you" I say as I pour myself another drink.

"Oh what is that?" she asks me softly.

"I can come to thanksgiving" I announce. She squeals with joy.

"Oh Jordan! This makes me so happy" she laughs with joy that warmed my heart to hear.

I missed her joyful laugh.

"You are?" I ask.

"Of course! I have not seen my best friend in ages! Oh Jordan! This is go great! I am going to make you Gram's famous chocolate pie. I was waiting until I found out if you were coming or not. So it is going to be just for you" she brags happily.

"Jules" I laugh.

"What?" she asks me.

"You don't have to do anything special on my account" I tell her.

"I want to. I want our first thanksgiving to be special Jordan" she tells me. I grin at the mention she said our first holiday together. Maybe she wanted more of them? I could only hope.

"I look forward to seeing you to" I promise her.

"Jordan you made me so happy. Thank you for coming" she says softly. She pauses I had a feeling there was something more she wanted to share with me. But she did not tell me.

"I am happy to make you happy. See you very soon. I will be there the same time as Mark" I announce as I log in on my lap top and change the flight time and day so I could be there early.

"Really? Oh that is so wonderful!" she squeals joyfully.

"Jordan? Are you coming?" Alyssa grabs the phone from her.

"Yes I am coming sis" I joke.

"Good! We are really happy to have you come" she tells me.

"I got that! I am glad you guys want me to come" I say.

"You will love Mom's homemade stuffing. It is to die for" she brags.

"Sounds like it will be a grate meal" I say.

"Give me the phone" demands Jules. I laugh as I hear them fighting in the back ground over the phone.

"Jules?" I say.

"I am here. Sorry about that. Alyssa was excited you are coming" she laughs.

"I got that" I say smiling.

"One last thing" she says.

"What is that?" I ask.

"We have to kind of share a bedroom. Both sets of my aunts and uncles are coming to town. And my grandparents plus Mark. Alyssa cannot share a room with Mr. Playboy" she jokes. "My mom figured that we are married that we want to share a room. Is that okay?" she worries. Was that okay? It was perfect!

"That is fine by me" I tell her. "And you are right about one thing"

"What is that?" she wonders.

"Mark should not share a room with Alyssa" I laugh. I hear her giggle on the phone. It was so good to hear her laugh.

"See you soon Jordan" she says before we hang up.

"Sweet dreams Jules. See you soon" I tell her as we hang up. I smile. I was happy to see her again. Maybe now was my chance to win my wife's heart. Maybe she could learn to love me like I loved her.
