It was a Thursday morning, around 6a.m. on April 1, 2011; and as usual Dad was in a bad mood but it seemed worse than usual that day. He looked really tense and just walked with pure anger. I wanted to ask what was wrong, but I decided not too because that would only make it worse. I pretended I didn't notice, so did my two sisters. I missed living with mom, so did Xena and Amber, Mom never really got as mad as Dad did.
Dad had been pointing out every single thing I did wrong lately, and no matter how small, which they were always very minor things, and they never went unpunished. So, I was walking on eggshells that morning, trying to be careful with my moves. When 6:30a.m. came, so did my biggest fear.
Dad had to leave at 6:45a.m. in order to make it to work on time, so he always checked in on us at 6:30 so he could leave early to get coffee. Our school bus didn't get here until after 7:30a.m., so we always had plenty of time after he left. He called us to say his good-byes and 'see you when I get home's. He found yet another thing I did wrong, I was not ready for school one hundred percent, even though I still had a hour until I had to leave. "Kori! Are you really not ready yet?!" was all I remember him screaming. Next thing I knew he grabbed me and started beating me. It hurt, it hurt so bad, so I ran. He was much faster than my eleven year old self, he grabbed me again and beat me even worse. Just when I thought he was done, he beat me for crying like I did. Boy did it hurt, that was by far the worst he ever beat me. When he finally left us, he said, "And y'all better not tell anyone, either!" I looked over at my sisters, I was still crying and so were they and they did not even get into any trouble. They just ran over to me and hugged me, and we just cried. After a few minutes of crying together, I left the circle and finished getting ready for school and we left.
When I got on the bus I went and sat with my two best friends, Katie Smith and Louise Adams. I didn't talk the entire time. When we got to mine and my little sister's, Amber, school we got off the bus and waved bye to our older sister, Xena. She looked like she seen a ghost, but I'm pretty sure we all did. When Amber and I walked into the school our consular greeted us, but my little sister waited behind, all I heard was "-I will pull you out of class later." The rest was muffled by other elementary students.
A few hours later I got pulled out of class, and was asked to go to Mrs. Rosa's office, our consular. Somehow she knew what happened that morning, I suspected Amber told her. I was angry, I was scared. Dad was already on 'probation' from last time Human Services found out. I didn't know what would happen, and I was scared to find out. 'He would know she told, he would be so angry with her. What if he hurt her like he did me, he never did that to her or Xena,' were my only thoughts. I'd much rather him hurt me than my sisters, I would not let him do that to them.
She knew what happened that morning, she knew everything. At the end of the school day a social worker withdrew me and my sisters out of school.
