Hello, I guess?

My life was always average. I was never considered special or popular, but I was alright with that.

I didn't even see myself as anything out of the ordinary.

Kinda sad now that I think about it, but it can't be helped.

My name is Ivy, Ivy Black. My life is a relatively boring one. An average life with an average family. My mom was always cheery, dad working but happy to lend a hand, and my sister a ray of sunshine.

She was super nice, while I was plain-Jane with average friends and average grades.

Get the picture yet?

Not that I resented my sister, Laila, in any way. She was my hope for my life being extraordinary someday.

On the Friday before summer break, we were in town getting smoothies in Laila's car when the storm began.

As she fought to keep us in the road, we began to drive home cautiously.

Halfway there, headlights flashed in our eyes before the car in front of us swerved. It began to spin, so Laila slammed on the brake as hard as she could.

The cars tractions failed at that exact moment. We slammed into the other vehicle and it sent us pinwheeling to the right. Sending my sisters first car careening into a tree.

I looked over to see my sister was in the drivers seat, her head resting on the air bag.

Shaking her shoulder, I soon realized that the white bag was red. Panicking, I pulled back and noticed that a branch had slammed into my sister.

Crawling out of the busted car window I saw the driver of the car ahead of us stumble out of his own car.

Waving him over, I shouted over the rain, "My sister is injured! You need to call an ambulance and the police." He looked at me in a daze before the words sunk in.

His eyes widened before a fearful glint entered them. "I don't need to call the police if I'm the only one who can."

Looking at him like he was crazy, I let my eyes roll before he went over to the car. He checked her pulse before he began to laugh.

"Your sister is dead."

Paling as the blood drained from my face, I whispered, "What?" He just let out a maniacal cackle. "Your precious sister is DEAD!"

I saw spots enter my vision before I blacked out in the numbingly cold rain.

When I woke up next, I heard the sad tones as a man told my mother, "She is perfectly fine. Just a few bruises and scrapes. Should heal up in a week or so."

Trying to find them, I called out softly, "Mom?"

I felt her hand on mine as she asked me, "Sweetie! Your awake!" I felt tears well up in my eyes before I whispered, "Laila's dead. She's dead and it's all my fault."

My mom squeezed my hand, "Ivy, look at me. It isn't your fault." The blackness around me seemed to mock me.

"Mom? How can I look at you if I can't see you? Can someone turn on the lights in here?"

An increase in grip strength had me letting out a yelp as my moms let out a panicked cry for a doctor.

The door opened and as the doctor, or so I presumed entered, I asked once more, "Why are all of the lights out? Is the power out or something,"

Hearing a gasp, which I assumed was the doctors, I curiously asked, "What?"

My mind pieced all the clues together. "The lights are on, aren't they. I'm the one who can't see that."

The doctor let out a sigh, "My name is Doctor Ishitaka. You are blind now, I am sorry to admit."

Nodding, I smiled faintly. "It's fine."

<line break>

With a sigh, my eyes opened to see the never ending darkness. My alarm to my right sounding off annoyingly loud.

'That memory again? It's been three months and I'm still viewing that in an endless cycle of nightmares.'

Yawning, I slammed my hand on the snooze button before getting dressed.

After the incident, I had my mom help me organize my closet. Since I knew where everything was, I could dress myself while still looking normal.

It also helped that I always wore jeans.

Sighing, I headed downstairs. 'Another day to get through. Hope I get through school without HER mocking me.'
