Every year on the second saturday of November, my parents host a huge family-friend lake day retreat/bonfire night. Everyone camps out at my place through the night and goes home mid afternoon the next day.
I guess I should describe my home or else it will probably sound insane.
See, my family owns three homes; our normal, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house which is about 5 minutes from my high school, Wintergreen High(home of the badgers), our beach house which is off the coast of San Diego, California, and our huge lake house in the middle of what I like to call "nowhere forest" why? Because you are literally in the middle of freaking nowhere; it's just miles and miles of woods. This is where the little "Cadwell family-friend" retreat happens.
Kinda creepy right? That's not even the half of the scares.
Let me give you a little background of the place.
The lake house cabin has been in my family for several generations. Starting with my great great grandparents, Mary and David Cadwell. I never knew them but, my great grandma, Meribelle Cadwell told me that they were great people, at least that's what I remember considering I was only 7.
After my great grandma died, the lake house was passed down to my grandparents, Elizabeth and Henry Cadwell; but, both ended up dying from a stoke the same day in the lake house living room, which led to my parents owning the lake house.
The lake house has always had a bad rep in my hometown, Waterloo, Alabama. It's a small town, which means rumors spread like wildfire.
According to pretty much the whole town of Waterloo, the Cadwell lake house is "haunted" along with the woods that surround it; which is the "true reason" that all my grandparents died there before they reached the age of 70.
I obviously don't believe all of the rumors considering I have never experienced any paranormal things nor do I believe in all that stuff.
However, my best friend, Daniel Arrington, seems to believe otherwise.
Every year he brings his complete "ghost hunting" kit to the lake house retreat in hopes of proving to me and the rest of our friends that the house is indeed haunted.
I've known all of my friends since the 4th grade when we were all in the same class with Ms. Carlton. Which means I have known my friends for almost 9 years considering we are now seniors in high school.
The group consists of 5 of us. Daniel Arrington, who I talked about before, the tech guy who doesn't go anywhere without his laptop that he created himself. Appearance wise, he is light skinned with short black hair, brown eyes and scrawny as can be. Then, there is Meredith Cleveland, your average 17 year old girl, with beautiful, long, curly, brown hair and bright green eyes, very liked by many guys, yet, has never had a boyfriend and tooootally not the girl i've had a crush on since the 7th grade. Then, there is my other best friend, Kyle Finch, the jock, "cool guy" of the group. He has blonde hair and blue eyes. Despite his stereotype, he is very funny and extremely loyal to his girlfriend of 3 years, Ruby O'donell, the extremely rich, hot, cheerleader. She has orange wavy hair and light green eyes. Her and Meredith have become really close of friends within the past few years due to their common interest in wanting to become Lawyers. Lastly, there's me...Collin Cadwell. I am pretty quiet but, I like to think of myself as ambitious. I have medium length brown hair and blue eyes. For the most part, I am really scrawny but, playing football for 2 years helped out quite a bit. Anyways, my point is, I love my group of friends...no matter how dysfunctional we are together. In the end, all that maters is that we've always had and always will have each others backs through thick and thin.
