I'm sorry I haven't been updating lately. I've been very busy become another year older. I made myself write this even though I don't have much time so please excuse any spelling or grammer mistakes or random words that auto correct added. I'll fix the mistakes when I have time. Vote, comment and, most importantly, enjoy! Xxx

"It seems we have our first volunteer"
The words career around my head echoing and crashing until I can't hear them anymore.

I realise I've shrunk to the ground. I stand up. I stand up with my head held high keeping eye contact with the president only breaking it to face the audience and tell them my name. Then I glare at him on the screen at the back instead. He's putting me in the games as an example of what happens when you go up against the Capitol. If he wants an example, I'll be an example. Just not of what he wants.

The crowd is still silent and staring at me. In fact no-one realises Effie has moved on until she calls out the name.

"James Carpenter"

A about 14 year old boy steps forward. He is so pale the freckles seem to leap of his skin and even from here you can see the sweat on his forhead. He's barely stepped a metre forward when there's a desperate shout.

"I volunteer"

Everyone searches for the volunteer and a few people step back when they find the source.

"I volunteer as tribute" he says more calmly. He, turns out to be a tall dark-haired boy with eyes the colour of forget-me-nots. He looks up at me and smiles a little, ignoring the peacekeepers who have assembled to escort him to the stage.

"What's your name?"
" Mier Aster"

As the mayor reads the Treaty of Treason (which is excruciatingly dull even if it is my first time hearing it) I try to recall what I know about Mier. I've seen him around school, he's one of the more popular kids due to his good looks and abilty to hit back at anyone who tried to beat him up.

He lives in town; his parents run a sewing shop. I've been there often as I make a lot of clothes for myself and other people in the seam. It makes a large profit and not many people have the skills. I don't think he spends much time in the shop though. I barely ever see him and if I do he's making so excuse to get out.

Whenever I do see him he is looking at me. I used to think it's because I'm the tree girl but the way he looked at me just then, perhaps it was more. Or maybe he just sees me in a new light now I'm in the hunger games with him.

The mayor has finished and me and Mier shake hands. As we do out eyes lock and I see how beautiful they really are. As pretty as a sapphire and as innocent as a doe. We eventually look away and are led inside to the place where we will say out goodbyes
