Kirstie POV

The sun rises just behind the house as I hear one of our family chickens cluck and I hurry out of bed. Today I will be taken t the royal castle as a contestant for The Selection. The Selection is a contest to find Prince Avi's future bride, the competition is held for every heir to the thrown and has been apart of our kingdoms history for as long as anyone can remember. My Grandmother use to tell me stories about one of her friends growing up the had the chance to compete. She said they were all given beautiful gowns and tiaras to wear every day. While rushing around my 2 room house day dream of what it would be like to wear a beautiful gown. I imagine it being a shade of blue and reaching all the way down to my feet.

After a few minutes of getting ready I take a seat next to the window and look out at the area I live in. My small village is on the outskirts of the kingdom, about an hour away from the castle which means the farthest from town where money can be made. As a result my village is one of the poorest, not that it really matters. With less money we have all learned to enjoy the little things in life. I'm not sure how long I stare out the window but next thing I know I see a royal carriage pulling up. Watching carefully as the door opens I am surprised to see who walks out. None other than Prince Avi. I would have figured he would be at the castle getting ready for everyone to arrive. Quickly I stand up and pat my skirt before getting the door. Once the door is fully open I  immediately curtsy.

"Your Highness." I say avoiding eye contact.

"Please just Avi. Are you Miss. Kirstin?" I nod.

 "That is me."

"Well I have come to collect you for The Selection." He says with a smile. Looking into his eyes I find the greenest eyes I have ever seen.

"Okay, umm, just let me say goodbye to my family real fast." He nods and I quickly run inside. My family circles around pulls me into a group hug.

"I love you guys. I'll be home again, don't worry." I say with tears streaming down my face.

"We love you Kit." My little sister says. I pull back and wipe away my tears, before heading to the door.

"Take care." I walk out with Prince Avi and we get in the carriage. I try to let him get in first, but he refuses and lets me get in.

During the ride I keep quiet and look at my surroundings. I've never been in a carriage before. I hear Prince Avi chuckle and I look over at him.

"You seem so fascinated with the carriage. I shrug.

"I've never been in one before. My family can't afford very much." I tell him honestly.

"Oh, I'm sorry." He looks out the window.

"Ah, we're at the next girls house. I think you'll like her, her name is Tori. Stay here, I'll be right back." I nod and he gets out. A few seconds later I see a girl my age with blonde and very curly hair come out. She is wearing a nice lavender skirt, with a white blouse, and white flats. I look down at my clothes and already feel out of place. I sink back into my seat and wait for them to get in. Once their are in Prince Avi sits next to me and Tori sits in front of me.

"Hi, I'm Tori." She says with a bubbly personality. I shyly wave.

"I'm Kirstie." I say smiling at her.

I look back out the window and see the castle I let out a gasp. Tori and Prince Avi look out the window and I hear Tori gasp too. The castle is beautiful with lots of gardens and the forest all around it.

"It's beautiful." Tori says and I nod. Just then the carriage stops.

"Come on girls. If you think the outside is amazing then wait till you see the inside." We both jump out and walk behind Prince Avi. When he opens the castle door I see about 20 something girls run forward. I go wide eyed and look over at Tori who is also wide eyed.
