I drove all around checking under every bench I saw like an idiot. I needed to find that next letter. What do they want from me anyway? "ZZZZZZZZ!" I was getting a call from Stephine. "Alice! I'm so sorry! The police think I'm lying and they are looking for you!"She cried. "Stephine, please calm down!"I assured her the police can take me dead but they will have to wait until I talk to my Grandmother. "I have to call you another time."I said quickly hanging up. I wish that I was at that park right now feeding the ducks. The park... that's it. I drove around until I finally found a park called Elm Wood. I found two letters under a bench:
Dear Alice,
A girl like you deserves more than one letter. :) It wraps you in it's ghostly arms, a gray clammy thing, yet if you move it lets you go and never says a thing. What is it?What could it be? Gray, clammy, and never says a thing? Fog! I opened the next envelope:
Dear Alice, I truly hoped you figured it out. You have until 10:33 exactly to find him or he dies.
If he wants me so bad, why would he even think about killing Jacob if he knows that's the only thing I want. That is the only reason I'm risking getting caught. There could be thousands of places with fog, but 1 out of those 1000 places is where Jacob is. I can't do this alone. I need help. I pulled up to curb and checked the time. It was now 6:32 so I had exactly 4 hrs and1 min. I walked up to the house waiting to meet a someone I haven't seen in, probably, years. Knock! Knock! The door peeped open and there she was my old friend, Melanie. "Hello?.. Alice!"She asked, hugging me."What are you doing here?" She welcomed me in with open arms. "I haven't seen you since you moved!"Melanie exclaimed. "Let's just cut to the chase. I need your help to rescue my friend Jacob and I think he is in a place with fog."I said not missing a single note. "Alice, I would really love to but there are a lot of places where there is fog."She sighed. "Are there any places where it's always foggy?"I asked, looking for a sign of hope. "Actually, there are two, but they wouldn't have fog on a day like this. Why can't this be something? Everything is so unclear I just don't understand. It's like I can see the answer, but I'm being confused by everything. Maybe it's not fog, but something that looks like fog. I pitched my idea to Melanie and she told me there was a place that made a lot of ice so there is a lot of steam surrounding the place. We headed there immediately. "You wait here!"I said, giving her the keys. "But I want to help!"She whined. "If I don't come back in 30 minutes you drive out of here as fast as you can it's too dangerous, Melanie."I said creeping around the side of the building. It was 10:30 so I knew I needed to act fast. "I don't think she's gonna come, Boss."A short little man said. "Trust me Clyde she will."A voice said from above. I was worried about what they might do to Jacob. I didn't even know what they wanted from me, but I didn't care I was going to make them pay for what they have done! "Bring out the kid!"A big man barked who I assumed was the "Boss" the short one was talking to. "I'm here." I said, stepping out from my hiding spot. "And here I was thinking you wouldn't show."He said walking around me with his goons. "What do you want from me?"I asked loudly. "Revenge."He laughed. "What do you mean?"I asked confused. "Your father took something very important from me and now I will take something from him!"He said pulling out a knife. His words echoed around me, Your father. "Give me Jacob!"I demanded. "So that's the boy's name."He mocked. "Sorry sweetie, but you won't live long enough to see him again!"One of the goons yelled grabbing me. Someone brought Jacob out with a bag over his head. I yelled out,"Jacob!" He called out to me to but was quickly shoved to the ground by a rat-looking man. The Boss came closer to me saying things about my father,"He was a terrible man. I'm doing the world a favor making sure you don't grow up to be like him." The knife was on my throat now cutting through my hope. I closed my eyes and waited for faith to kill me. Jacob's jeep came crashing through the heavy brick wall. All his men were distracted. I elbowed the one holding me and ran towards Jacob. The rat-man was confused by the jeep until he saw me grab Jacob. We ran to the jeep and grabbed the back rail. "Go!"We yelled in harmony. Melanie didn't stop until we were at the state capital Columbus. We parked on a path in the woods without being noticed by any cars. "Are you guys ok?" Melanie asked. "Who is she?"Jacob asked me. I gave him a brief explanation. I have even more questions now about my father. "Melanie we can take you back home, but we can't risk being seen."I offered. "No, I understand, Alice that's why I don't want to go home. I already talked to my Mom and told her I'll be having a sleepover all weekend."She said giving me a hug. "Thank you so much!"I said, hugging her back. I was thankful for having these two help me, but I knew they couldn't be there the whole time during our adventure. I will get the answers to my questions and turn myself in for my mother.
