Let me tell you about a story of a cruel little world
A world of insecurities, about boys, about girls
About what will happen next if I don't do what I'm told
About politics, arithmetic, riches and goldLittle girls growing up trying to be like all the rest
Little boys trying to be big and bad puffing out their chests
Nobody cares to tell those children that they could be the ones who's next
Everyone's following guidelines, trying hard to be "perfect"Silicon and silly dreams, morphing into plastic dollies
Down the hall they're doing morphine now, hanging with their homies
Singing songs that they don't understand the words to, preaching empty lyrics
You said you're gonna make it out of here, c'mon lets be realisticLet me tell you about a story of a cruel little world
A world of blinded, irresponsible, "fun-loving" parents
About what will happen next when we don't see behind closed doors
About lost eyes, tiny wrists, and small footsteps that never make it homeMommies and daddies just don't care about their babies
Saying "with all the free time I have now I can finally find a hobby"
Looking at everything wrong with them instead of where they should be
Suddenly your kids gone missing but no one asks "where's little Bobby?"My eyes roll back into my head so I don't see the people
The ones giving speeches telling lies that aren't so real
Setting standards that change within the second and the hour
No longer about the fairness, everybody wants the powerLet me tell you about a story of a cruel little world
A world we wouldn't have, so let our history unfold
About what will happen next if I don't do what I'm told
About the lives and privileges that paved out this roadSacrifices made by Malcolm, Tubman, Parks, and Dr. King
What happened to the opportunities granted by the past
What happened to "I have a dream, I have a dream, I have a dream"
The things we take for granted:Did we forget about that?
Did we loose what we had?
Was this too good to last?I'm tired of hearing them say that all lives matter
When they don't even care to start with the ones
the ones that you've grouped who've wanted that equality
since our ancestors roots.
Until then
Black lives matter
Black lives matter
Black lives matter
Let me tell you bout a story of a cruel little world
A world of lies upon lies, untruths to closed eyes
About what will happen next if I speak out of line
About words I should be saying instead of what's mineI'm confused, it's forgotten, everything's just rotten
I can't tell what's the truth; Who am I? Who are you?
Every right word is wrong and every wrong word is right
What's the real story behind this, forever lost into the nightIs it wrong to think of love as just a word and not a feeling
That this bible we read every Sunday has been rewritten
Let alone we'll never know what they have taken
Religion is crime of its own now, you can't praise to your God without it being "forsaken"Let me tell you bout a story of a cruel little world
A world viewed through my eyes a story I've told
About what will happen next once I finish this poem
About how they would react? Would this be another "omen"There's a lot of messed up things in this world
Be every little thing that we thought or said
We'll always find a way to make sure its unread
Because the deep, unwritten, uncut words of a persons heart
Will be omitted, rearranged, silenced, turned dark
