Chapter 1
The roosters crow awoke me from my peaceful slumber. I opened my eyes and stared at the dark blue wall. I sat up and looked out the window. The sun was just now coming over the hill. I smiled and stood up,stretching. I walked to my dresser and pulled out some jeans and a old T-shirt. After pulling them on I walked down the stairs and pulled my hair up in a bun. My grandmother,Ava, stood in the kitchen. I smiled when I walked in.
"What's for breakfast?" I asked and sat down at the counter. She waved the spatula around.
"Eggs, bacon and toast," she said and put the bread in the toaster. I heard her thick country accent.
"Yum. Bacon," I said. She put the food on plates and sat down beside me. We ate our food in silence. After we finished she stood and walked to the door.
"Lots of work to do today. U feed the chickens and milk the cows. I'll do the rest," she said and slipped her boots on. She walked out the door and left. I got up and pulled my shoes on. I opened the door and walked to the chicken coop. I grabbed the chicken feed and walked in pouring some here and there.
When I finished I left and went to the cows. I milked the cows and then went to the house to get changed for school. Ava wasn't anywhere to be seen so I got dressed in shorts and a shirt. I pulled on my sneakers and walked to the barn where I found Ava. I asked her if she would give me a ride.
"Sure, honey. Let's go get the keys," she said. She went in the house to grab the keys while I climbed in the rusty, old, blue Chevy truck. She came out and climbed in, starting the truck. We pulled out and drove into town. When we reached the school I got out.
"Bye Ava," I said and grabbed my bag.
"Bye sweetheart. You're ridin' the bus home right?" She asked. I nodded and shut the door. She pulled away as I walked in the doors. I walked to my locker and saw my best friend Elliot standing there, waiting. He was tall and skinny as a stick. He was blonde, had blue eyes, and was really nerdy. he wore his usaul cargo shorts and T-shirt. I opened the locker. We had no locks cause there were only around 300 kids in the middle school. No one bothered.
"Hi," he greeted. I smiled.
"Hey," I said. I grabbed my books and we walked to class together. We had all our classes together. We walked in the class room and sat in our usual seats, in the middle close to the window. There was a empty chair on my left, the aisle chair. The teacher, Mrs.S, clapped her hands to get our attention. We all looked at her.
"Class. We have a new student coming today so be nice to him," she said sternly. There were mixed emotions from every one. Some were excited. Some were unhappy. I honestly didn't care. Elliot doesn't care either.
The door opened and a tall, blonde boy walks in. He was wearing jeans and a plain white shirt. Mrs.S smiles and talks to him quietly.
"Everyone meet Will," she said, facing us. He looked a little shy. He waved slightly.
"Hey," he said.
"You will be sitting by Riley," she pointed at me. He looked at me with his blue eyes. He walked over and dropped his bag on the floor. He sat down and looked at me.
"Hey, I'm Riley," I said and stuck my hand out. He smiles slightly.
"Will," he said and shook my hand. I laughed.
"Really? I didn't know that," I joked. Mrs.S cleared her throat and started talking about the science test next week. I didn't listen to her. I was busy being lost in my own world. I glanced at Elliot and saw he was reading Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire under his desk. Nerd, I thought then went back to staring out the window. The bell rang and everyone grabbed their stuff. I got up and poked Elliot cause he didn't hear the bell. He jumped and looked up at me.
