The most dangerous day in your teenage life: Moving day. Everyone headed to college and I was no different. As you would expect, tears and goodbye wishes filled the streets of this monstrosity we called a city. Only some tears feel for more than one reason.
"Ivy be careful okay, don't  get in  with the wrong crowd "I soon remembered my destination was 4.5 trillion miles away and only then did I realize my only company was the radio.
"... and in other news two local criminal men found kissing in public have been executed."
I changed the radio station after that. This is what had filled my entire life this new law, that everyone followed to the letter was destroying the place I loved.
Day had faded into early evening by the time I arrived at the stone entrance to my new college. I checked in and began the process of moving everything into my new dorm that was no bigger than a public bathroom. I slowly dragged box after box up to the third floor dorm 342 where I will be spending the next year of my life.
I was standing at the trunk of my car when I heard," hey do you want some help?" The voice echoed from a small round faced boy. He had ebony black hair with equally as dark eyes. He took a small box from my hands and stood waiting.
"Sure, thanks, who are you?"
" I'm Joey, I got here earlier. What about you?
" Ivy "
All the boxes had been moved up from the car and Joey and I plopped down on the bed. We breathed heavily and recovered before we both say up. I began unpacking because I knew if it didn't happen now, it would never get done.
" Thanks for the help" I said simply.
" No problem, hey I just wanted to ask you something before we are friends."
" Uhhh, okay go for it I guess"
" Am I safe to be gay around you?"
I looked stupidly at him then realized what he meant.
" Oh yeah, I'm surprised how blunt that was."
" I've learned to read people pretty well ever since I realized I was gay. You have to be in order to know who you're safe with. You would understand wouldn't you?
This caught me off guard.
" What no, I'm straight, you thought I was lesbian no no no no."
He stared strangely at me seeming to be thinking deeply about something beyond my knowledge.
Joey truly interested me. I had only known him for hours but he was one of those people that you feel like you've known for your entire life. He stayed in my room as I unpacked. His eyes followed me but I could tell his brain was not. We somehow had a similarity that allowed us to speak with words because he suddenly broke the silence and stole my thoughts from my head.
" I hope I stay with the right crowd."
" Wait, how did you know tha..."
" Here text me when you wake up, I know a good breakfast place not far away." He left without a trace and soon I was alone holding an old gas receipt with a phone number scrawled on the back in beautiful cursive writing. Only adding another mysterious trait to the unique individual.
"Hm.. Weird" I spoke aloud as I placed the paper on the desk and ended the evening.
