The diversity on this site is nonexistent, unless you look really hard. The most famous books on teen fiction are about a pasty white teenager falling in love with a pasty white bad boy who had a mysterious past. There may be a black person in that story, but he/she/they is usually the witty best friend or the character mentioned once as someone in class with the main character.
That's pretty much it.
If you go into general fiction or spiritual, you will find an abundance of Muslim love stories, which is honestly the only diverse thing I see trending (other than those "thug" stories or the typical love stories).
The only black stories I see trending are always the urban ones that have a stupid ass title like, 'Married to the Thug,' or 'A Thug love Story'. Why can't their just be a regular love story with people of color as the main characters?
I've only seen about one story on here with and Indian main character. I've never actually read a book with an Indian supporting character.
I've read about 2 stories with an so-called Asian (Japanese/Korean/Vietnamese/Chinese) that isn't smart. I've dug down deep enough to find a number of books without your typical black girl stereotype.
The LGBT community does get some love on here for the books, but even those are just filled with pasty white ass kids. Why can't their be a poc (person of color) be the main and fall in love with another poc?
I'm only scraping the surface. We haven't even gotten to stereotypes or how little attention the disabled gets on this site.
I'm actually holding back a lot of the stuff right now, knowing people will get offended by what I want to say.
It's pretty big stuff. I know, amazing how a black person can write this. How about you put this in your story in place of a white best friend, or better yet your main character.
How about (this is an even better idea you guys) the main character doesn't have a love interest.
Crazy, I know.
What if he/she/they go through a self discovery journey, learning to love themselves and enjoy life.
Whatever tho.
