Brandon and Callie walked to school after Callie calmed down and Stef had left for work. He watched her carefully as he walked, making sure she was okay. She could feel his stares on him and she shuddered. “Are you okay now?” he asked gently, placing his hand on her shoulder.
“Yes,” she whispered.
“It’s going to be okay, my moms’ are going to keep you and Jude safe. I promise.” His voice was strong and believable but Callie couldn’t exactly believe him.
They arrived at the front of the school and Callie hesitated to move. She was too nervous to manage through the day. She sighed and closed her eyes, looking down. When she opened her eyes back up she saw Wyatt across the schoolyard. She went to wave to him, but saw he was with Tayla. She grabbed his luscious hair and forced his lips on hers. Callie’s breathing hitched and she stood stunned. Brandon went to storm over there, but Callie grabbed him and pulled him back.
“Forget it, I’ll talk to him later,” she whispered. Brandon nodded and they both walked into the school, Wyatt noticing Callie walking to the doors with Brandon and feeling guilty though it was not his fault.
In the school, Callie tried to distract herself from any thoughts of Wyatt or Brandon. Being starred down by Wyatt in English made it hard though. “Babe,” Wyatt whispered in her ear from beside her, Callie acting as if he hadn’t even spoke. “Callie?”
“I saw you kiss Tayla Wyatt.” Her words were so tense, they could be cut with a knife.
“She kissed me!” he demanded quietly so Timothy wouldn’t hear.
“I know, I just, I don’t want to hear it anymore.” Callie’s voice choked and Wyatt looked at his desk sadly. He didn’t say anything for the rest of the class and left Callie to walk to her locker by herself.
The day dragged on, all the kids happy when the last bell rang. Callie lazily left the building, tired and upset. She realized they were walking home today when Lena’s car wasn’t in its usual spot. She looked around for her fosters siblings and found Jesus and Jude standing by a tree. Quickly she walked to where they stood, Mariana and Brandon not far behind her.
“My head is bothering me,” Mariana complained as she took a sip of ice cold water.
“Go home and take an advil,” Jesus instructed.
“Obviously,” she said sarcastically. Brandon laughed a little, but froze when Jesus glared at him. Jude had already started off towards home, the kids now realizing that he was pretty far ahead. They all ran to catch up with him. “Way to leave us Jude,” Mariana joked.
“Sorry, I just wanted to get home. I’m tired,” he said looking down. Callie anxiously moved over to where he stood and put a hand on his shoulder.
“You okay baby?” she asked.
“Yeah, just a bad day at school. Nothing serious,” he replied genuinely bothered. Callie wrapped an arm around him and hugged him tightly. To her surprise the rest of their foster siblings joined in the hug and it was a weird moment for Callie. She felt happy, yet worried they were getting way too attached.
