Draco and I had finished our shopping around early evening. During our trip to Diagon Ally, I had gotten a few last minutes presents for Mrs. Malfoy, Mr. Malfoy, and Draco though, I am sure that the two have nothing in store for Christmas, which now is just a few days away.
“Mummy! Where were you?” Scorpius said as he barged into my bedroom with Bella not fare behind. I was wrapping up the presents that I had just gotten. Scorpius jumped onto my bed with Bella and lay down on his stomach with his elbows supporting his cheeks as he stared at me, watching me warp the presents.
“I was out shopping.” I said as I grabbed hold of a piece of tape and placed it on the paper.
“What did you buy?” he asked me.
“I bought presents for Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy.” I said.
“Did you get any for Daddy?” he asked. I rolled my eyes and nodded.
“Yes, I did.” Scorpius got up from the bed and went to sit beside me with his legs crossed.
“Mummy…” He began. I looked up from my work and at him.
“Yes.”
“Can I ask you a question?” He asked and I nodded in reply. “Can we go back home?”
“Why?” I asked him. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to go; I had no idea he wanted to. For the past few days all he taking about was how fun it was living with Daddy.“Daddy’s house is boring.” He said sighing. I smiled at him and picked him up and placed him in my lap.
“Do you want to get something from there?” I asked as Scorpius nodded.
“Yeah… can you please bring all of your instruments and the T.V?” he asked.
“I… I don’t know… I don’t live here. You have to go and ask Daddy.”
“Why?”
“He lives here.” I told him simply and Scorpius sighed.
“He wont let me inside his room.”
“Why not?” I asked. Scorpius shrugged and crawled into my lap and began playing with my fingers.
“I don’t know, he says he’s busy… when do we get to put op the Christmas tree?” He asked. I raised my brows and gasped in realization, I had forgotten about the tree.
“I don’t know… we could always go back to our home for Christmas, or go to Mrs. Weasley’s.” I suggested as Scorpius began grinning.
“Okay, me, you, Heather, Bella, Daddy, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Bella, Aunt Lindsey, and Uncle Caleb all get to go to Mrs. Weasley’s!” he said jumping with excitement. I shook my head and smiled weakly as Scorpius looked at me puzzled, he stopped his jumping and looked me straight in the eye. “Why not?” He asked quietly.
“Because…Daddy,” I began clenching my teeth at the word ‘Daddy’, “Daddy’s family doesn’t like the Weasley’s… we can go. Just not with them.” I said hesitantly. Scorpius nodded dumbfounded and sat slowly with saddened eyes.
“Okay…”
“We can still go to the burrow of you’d like.” Scorpius shook his head, “They’d all be happy to see you.” I added but still, no change in his mood. I sighed and rolled my eyes. “Well, than what do you want?” I asked him. Scorpius shrugged and began to walk out from our bedroom with Bella barking and following behind him wagging her tail with her tongue sticking out of her mouth. I shrugged and continued to wrap the Christmas presents. When I was done, I decided to write a letter to Mrs. Weasley.
Dear Mrs. Weasley,
Scorpius has been adapting quite well to the Malfoy’s way of life, I wouldn’t be surprised after all he is one of them. I just wanted to write to see how things were with you at the burrow, if you had heard anything from Harry at all.
I am still debating whether or not Scorpius and I should be coming over for Christmas, if that’d be okay with you of course. Hope that all of you are well,
Love,
Sydney.
By the time I had finished writing my letter, I heard a knock on the door. I quickly hid the letter out of sight; I knew I would be in a heap of trouble if the Malfoy’s saw me writing a letter to the Weasley family.
“Come in?”I said fixing up the desk in my room making sure that the letter was hidden out of sight. Malfoy soon stepped into the room holding Scorpius’s hand. “What do you want?” I asked as Malfoy raised his brows.
“Incase you haven’t noticed, this is part of my Manor. I can come in if I want.” He said sneering.
“What ever, you’re lucky Scorpius is here, so that Mommy can’t use her big people words. Again I ask: what do you want?”
“What did you tell Scorpius?” He asked, I furrowed my brow and looked at my son puzzled.
“Whatever I said, I didn’t say anything wrong.”
“You told him that he can go to the Weasley’s with you for Christmas?” I nodded placing my hands on my hips.
“Yeah, what’s the problem?”
“You know my folks are gonna freak! That’s not the only problem, He’s here too.” He said with emphasis. I formed my mouth into in ‘o’ and nodded my head.
“Oh yeah… but that’s okay. We wont tell them where Scorpius and I are going.”
“You and Scorpius,” He began nodding, “Alright than… what about me?” He asked. I shrugged.
“What about you?”
“What about our Christmas together as a Family?” He asked. I looked at Scorpius with soft eyes.
“Scorpius, why don’t you go and see what Mrs. Malf—I mean Granma, is up to?” I suggested. He looked back and forth between Malfoy and me and sighed.
“Okay… you just want me gone don’t you Mummy?” He asked. I hesitated and nodded with a weak smile.
“Yes… I need to talk with him.” I said pointing at Malfoy. Scorpius nodded and sighed again.
“Okay…” He said with glum as he walked out of the bedroom closing the door behind him.
“You want to spend Christmas together as a family? What are you playing at Malfoy?”
“What do you mean? I just want to have a normal Christmas with the three of us as a family!”
“I don’t want to! Don’t you get it! I hate living here, I don’t like the way I’m treated, the only reason I put up with this place, is because of Scorpius.” I yelled finally letting go of the anger that had been bottled up inside me for the past few days. Draco however, looked at me perfectly calm.
“I know that, I’m not blind. I know you hate me after everything I’ve done. Just do it for Scorpius okay? You’re not the only one who cares about him.” Draco sighed and smiled hesitantly before recomposing himself, “ You know, Scorpius asked for us to go and get a tree. You want to come? He wants us all to go.” He added.
“Scorpius wants us all to go?” I asked as he nodded, “Fine. When?”
“Lets just wait for you to cool down a bit.” He said smirking before he walked out the room closing the door shut behind him. I sighed and looked to the ceiling.
I grasped the golden locket that was clasped on my neck and kissed it. It was given to me by my Mother, the last Christmas I ever had with them. I opened it and let my self ponder over the picture that I had placed inside. It was a picture of my sister, me, my mom and dad on one side, and a picture of me in the hospital with Scorpius the day he was born. A tear fell from my eye and I wiped it away with my fingers.
I walked over to my desk and found the letter to Mrs. Weasley I had just written. I re-read the letter again and then began to tear it up. As much as I hated to admit it, Malfoy was right. Scorpius needed his Mother and Father, just like I needed mine.
