Toshiro had spent the past few weeks doing paperwork since the soul society had turned into slight chaos from the captains that had left to join the hollows. It had been yet another long day. He laid the pen gently at the side of the finished paperwork. His half opens eyes stared out the window as he took a break to make some tea. His head was pounding with the overflow of information and stress like all the other captains had. Most of the lieutenants were busy off on other missions for the time being. He sat back at his desk and sipped his tea it was peaceful at the moment. Till Rangiku came bursting through the door excited to see her little captain. She ran up and hugged him. He felt his whole body stiffen then relax not putting up much of a fight with his sluggish behavior. Lucky for him he sat the tea cup on the window cill before it could spill on all the papers that had flown everywhere. He looked past Rangiku blankly as all the organized papers fell around them. All his work, he wasn't fully with it and took a minute for the anger to kick in. But he lay on the floor glaring at Rangiku.

"Damnit Rangiku now is not the time." Hitsugaya growled his voice wasn't as loud as it usually was.

"Aw come on captain. I got word from the head captain we have a mission. And we get to go to the world of the living to take care of a little hollow problem. Now I know it's not a big deal but all the captains are under stress and it's a chance to get out of this stinky old room. You have been in here for weeks. Come on!" She protested standing up then pulled her little captain up as well. "Besides you look bored out of your mind in here. Come on!" She took his arm pulling him along.

"What?! B...but. Hey let go Rangiku I have work to do. I don't have time to fool around with stupid hollows. Leave it to that substitute soul reaper." Histugaya yelled as he was dragged to the world of the living.

It was a mess of hollows. They were everywhere and frankly Toshiro was to tired to care. Rangiku clapped her hand happy to be back in the world of the living she seemed to like all the strange things that went on  there. Toshiro landed on top of a building one hand on his Zanpakuto. He glared up as the swarm of ugly creatures. Shocked Rangiku looked down and hurried to her captains side.

"Aw what's the matter with you. You look mad. Come on let's draw our Zanpakuto and have a little fun!" She giggled as she ran off to fight.

"Well I guess I have no choice since I'm stuck here." Out of the corner of his eye he saw Ichigo. "Hmm. Well there is a lot of them." He sighed then drew his Zanpakuto as ice slashed through the hollows.

The three soul reapers kept it up for hours. Ichigo looked over at Toshiro who fighting was delayed and sloppy. He was taking in more damage then dishing it. Rangiku was to busy with the bigger ones to seem to notice. Ichigo stayed close to the captain for a bit to make sure everything was alright. More hollows seems to be appearing out of no where which irritated Ichigo and gladly took out his anger on them. This must be captain Aizens doing Ichigo thought. He saw a flash of ice take out a large group of the monsters then a small figure fall down to earth red stained his back and chest as Ichigo dove after him hoping to catch him before he hit the ground. He was to far away. Toshiro hit down in the grass creating a crater in the ground. He lay on his side out cold.

"Toshiro!!!" Ichigo yelled as he ran up to the little soul reaper holding him. "Hey!! Toshiro! Say something. Can you hear me?!" Ichigo yelled as the little snow hair captain groaned.

"T...that's...captain Hitsugaya...t...to you...." He mumbled before passing out.

"Captain?!" Rangiku cried as she ran up to them. "This is horrible what do we do?!" She put a hand on Toshiro's cold head.

"I... I don't know.... We can take him to my house. Orihime is out of town with a friend." Ichigo said picking up Hitsugaya.

"Well I'm going to stay with you. Till he wakes up." Rangiku stated.
