Chapter One

The story of how I ended up in an orphanage always fascinated me.

Not only was there the fact that I was clichely left on the doorstep in a basket with a note, but I was only about two weeks old. Being a baby in an orphanage has it's advantages, though, and only a few weeks later I was adopted by Marshall King, CEO of White Star Talent Production Agency. He was a little on the feminine side, and adopting me was, as he put it, "the best decision of his life."

By the time I was turning one, my dad had started teaching me music. By age three, I had started writing my own songs, and by age seven I could play guitar, piano, violin, and bass. When I was ten, he started bringing me into work, and I started working on writing and producing music, editing songs, running errands, and doing whatever else I could possibly do.

Now, at age seventeen, I was officially a songwriter and song-editor, working in the agency all day. I had always been smart, so Marshall decided it'd just be best if I took school online and was able to go at my own pace. Not only did this give me a chance to graduate from school early, but further my music career, and we both knew that I loved it, admitted out loud or not.

“Auri!” Marshall’s voice sang, “Auri, my dear, where are you?”

I sighed, closing my laptop, “In here, Marshall!”

A few seconds later, Marshall’s face popped into my doorway, a huge grin on his face. When he saw me, it only seemed to grow brighter. He danced into the office, and even though he had a business suit on, and one his more normal ones at that, he still managed to look childish.

“Auri!” He squealed, jumping on me and giving me a hug, “My dear! Why are you dressed like that? I thought you’d be more dressed up for the new band that will be joining us!”

“Why should I bother?” I said, raising an eyebrow, “It’s just another boyband.”

Marshall’s expression became shocked, “Another boyband? It’s only the most popular boyband everywhere! Why can’t you be cute like other girls?”

Ignoring Marshall’s pouting, I reopened my laptop, and started working on music again.

“You did write a song for them, right?” Marshall asked, suddenly serious.

When I looked back up, the overly-feminine, gay-acting Marshall was no longer there, and instead his business-loving self stood there. His face remained emotionless, but his eyes shined with something I couldn’t place.

“Of course.” I said, minimizing my program and opening a document on my desktop to show to him, “I have the lyrics written down here, and I’ve already memorized the chords, I just need to write them down.”

Marshall nodded, then sat down in a white fluffy office chair across from me.

“Auri.”

I stared at him.

“I need to ask you for a favor.”

I raised an eyebrow, and closed my laptop a bit, “What is it?”
