It was in the middle of May the trees were bright green, the red and white flowers that were in Brooke's backyard were fully bloomed. It was ninety degrees out, and Brooke was getting some fresh air standing outside by her favorite tree, closing her eyes, and feeling the wind past through her dark brown hair. She stood there feeling the wind fly through her loose strands that were not tucked behind her ears, and let the wind creep through her wings as she brought them up slowly, and let them stretch all the way out until she could not stretch them any further. Slowly she brought her snow white wings back down into their original position, which was hanging from her back letting them just barely sweep the ground. Then she quickly raised her wings once more and let them drop with a hard force. The wind was bouncing on and off of her wings that now held her in the air, and let her fly over the large tree that she was once standing under, and that now she towered over. Brooke flew up until she reached where she could not fly any further. She had reached the top of the barrier where no one could fly any further. The barrier was light gray for the first ten feet up, and over that it was a fake sky. It had made the sun shine everyday ever since Brooke could remember, and the clouds were never gray, it would never rain even though the city folk had heard about other kinds of weather inside of books about; hurricanes, tornadoes, rain, hail, snow, and even rainbows after the rain has passed, though, no one around this city has ever seen them before.
Brooke reached up to touch the top of the barrier. She tried to feel a cloud, but all she could feel was the hardness of the metal barrier, even the clouds were fake. She remembered once she tried to break through to the other side, to see what lay beyond the metal plate that kept everyone hostage. She hit the barrier with a hard punch in hopes that it would all break down, and she could explore the adventures that were ahead. But the barrier did not break or fall, she did not even leave a scratch on it's metal surface. Ever since she was little Brooke remembered trying to get through to the other side to see what was out there but no one has ever left the city, other than the guards that worked for the government. Their job is to make sure that no one tries to leave the city, and if someone tries to leave they must pay the price. The guards will take whoever was trying to escape and lock them in jail overnight, and in the morning everyone will be invited to the city stage. There, when everyone is present they will take the person that had tried to escape, and hang them for their crime. The guards make sure that everyone is looking as the man gets hung, and if they don't look they will get a slash from the guards wip. The government tells us that we must look as the people pay the price, and if we don't, they feel like we don't get the message that we are never suppose to go beyond the walls.
Brooke feels her wings getting heavy as she still hovers above the city trying to feel the clouds that are not there. She closes her eyes and lets herself fall without her wings to help her fly. She falls at a fast speed feeling the warm air brush her wings, and take her to the ground once more. She let her wings fold up as they catch the wind, and her back face the ground that is coming at a fast rate towards her. Brooke comes close to the ground and then opens her eyes, and turns without a second thought, she lets her wings catch her before she hits the ground that barely missed her. She gracefully swooshes her wings to the ground that now has contact with her white shoes, and lets her wings go back to the position that hang in place. Brooke walks to the door of her backyard, and slides it open. She walks into her house and gets into the fridge, and takes out a bottle of water. Brooke set the bottle on the dark marble countertop, she felt like there was someone staring at her from afar. She saw a shadow pass through the doorway that connected her living room and her dining room. Brooke quietly grabbed a pan from the top shelf of the cupboard. She held it over her head with both hands gripping tightly around the handle of the pan. Again the shadow passed through the doorway, she ran into the living room with the pan in a tight grip looking all around to where the shadow had gone. Then she saw two pale hands cover her eyes "Guess who." Brooke let out a huge sigh. "You scared me." Brooke said as she turned around to find a man with black hair, and a huge smile on his face. Brooke put her arms around his warm neck and gave him a long hug. "What are you doing here?" Brooke asked as she pulled away from the hug. "I just came to see how my girl was doing." The boy said with the smile lingering on his face. "I'm good, I just came back from a flight." said Brooke "Well I was wondering if you weren't too busy if you want to go and grab a movie, and maybe after a bite to eat." Brooke sighed and let her arms fall from the boy's shoulders as she walked away "I can't, I have to study for my test on Tuesday Brooke said as she walked into the kitchen." The boy sighed and followed her into the kitchen and put his arms around her waist. "You studied for a test last Tuesday." Brooke could feel the warmth of the boy's hands on her waist, and the felt butterflies that begin fluttering in her stomach as he touched her waist going up to the stomach.
"Yes, and now I have to study again for a test this Tuesday. Brooke said as she push the boy's hands down into her hands. "I'm sorry baby but I can't go out tonight maybe some other time." Brooke said as she held his hands away from her body. "Brooke you study too much, you need a break. Come with me tonight and we can have a good time." Said the boy tucking a loose strand of hair from Brooke's face.
"Tristan, I already told you I can't, i'm sorry but maybe some other time." Brooke was now walking towards the door. Tristan sighed and followed her into the living room and to the front door. "So not tonight then?"
"No not tonight sorry, i'll see you at school tomorrow." said Brooke as she opened the front door Tristan rolled his eyes, and grabbed Brooke by her side and pulled her in for a long kiss by the open door. Brooke could feel the passion between the intertwined lips, it was light and soft with the warm touch of Tristan's lips. The connection broke for a few seconds, Brooke could hear her heart beating as Tristan's hands began to rise up to her stomach, and back down a little lower from her waist as Brooke came in closer, and felt the soft touch of Tristan's lips come back in contact with her's. Tristan's soft lips ran down the side of Brooke's cheek going down her neck, Brooke could smell the cologne that he had put on that morning. It smelt of mint on his neck as he kissed her collarbone. Brooke pulled aways just as Tristan started running his lips further down her collarbone. They gave one last short kiss goodbye, and Tristan then walked out the door and waved goodbye and called back "You study too much!" followed with a cute playful laugh and then let his crystal white wings glide him into the sky.
Brooke laughed and shut the dark wood door as Tristan flew away. She walked back through her living room into her kitchen, and got into the cupboard she got out a box of cereal. Brooke reached into the stainless steal fridge, and got out the milk, she got a bowl and a spoon out and poured herself a bowl of Crunch. Brooke took the bowl of cereal and went into the newly painted living room that was a dark red. She remembered painting the living room just last Sunday with her mom and dad they had all pitched in a great deal of work, and a lot of messing around too. She could still recall when her dad painted her face with the dark red paint, and she had to get him back with a streak of red in his dark hair running down his pointy nose. Brooke sat on the black couch with the bowl of cereal in her hand, she picked up the remote to the TV and push the power button. The news came on, and showed a pale man with blonde hair- he was being arrested by the guards of the government. The news told Brooke that they found this man trying to escape to the other side of the barrier, which means now the guards were taking him to the jail and that he would stay overnight. Then tomorrow the people would be made to look upon this man being hung for what he has done today.
