Remi began to rinse out her hair in the sink. Multiple bottles of bleach and brown dye were strewn across the counter, a mess she would clearly have to hide when the supervisor made her trip around the dormitory. Dyeing hair was not one of the allowed activities in the Academy for Military Skills, known to its students as AMS. Remi flipped her head up to see her purple hair still standing its ground after 3 1/2 bottles of mousy brown dye. "Shoot!" She kicked the toilet in frustration, and immediately regretted it. Sitting down on the floor, nursing her aching toes, she heard the dorm door swing open from outside. Remi groaned as her irritating roommate floated inside.
"Hey! You home?" Violet's voice rang throughout the small bedroom. The footsteps continued into the tiny kitchen, and Remi jumped as the bathroom door swung open.
"Ha! Again?" Violet's eyes skimmed over the various bottles. "I already told you. You can't undo genetic mutation. No matter how many generations that pigment goes back," she continued, patting Remi on the head as if she were an animal, "you'll still be the purple-haired weirdo. Look it up! I promise I won't tell this time but next time you'll regret it." Violet blew a sarcastic kiss and stepped on Remi's ankle on the way out. "Oops!" The door clanged shut. Remi sighed, and started to clean up the bottles from the counter. What if it actually is genetic mutation? she thought, and shook her head, remembering how much of an idiot Violet was. One by one, Remi aimed the bottles out the small window and towards the empty fields. She was lost too deep in her thoughts, that she didn't her the door unlock and the supervisor step inside.
"Eh-hem," Supervisor Amherst stood with her arms crossed in the bathroom doorway.
"I was just..." Remi staggered for words, but they were stuck in her throat.
"Dye is not allowed young lady! And I like the lavender anyways. I'm going to let it slide because the chemicals were not used, but you'd better watch yourself."
"I'm sorry, it won't happen again."
"No, it won't." Amherst took the remaining bottles, turned on her heel and promptly left the dorm.
That little snitch! Remi though, as she sprawled across her bed. Her gaze turned to rest on the notice on her nightstand. She picked it up and began to read;
