I stand here, in Chemistry, leaning over the lab table as I color the poster that Brenda so beautifully drew. She truly is a wonderful artist.
"I can't believe she really isn't talking." Brenda says braking the silent, studious air between us.
"Yeah, this has to be a record a whole thirty minutes and not a word has come from Annabelle's mouth." I reply with a smile while taking a break to look over at her. Dylan is still on his phone and Annabelle is really concentrating on her poster.
"Uggh, that makes me so angry. Annabelle lives on human interaction but he wants to be a dumbbutt and ignore everything she says." Brenda says also looking at them. "I mean Annabelle is an extremely interesting human being! What could possibly be on that stupid phone that is better than her?" Brenda continues. Brenda never gets this riled up.
I can see Annabelle starting to color faster and harder and Bam! She throws down her marker. Dylan doesn't even flinch. Annabelle closes her eyes, takes a deep breath and says in a happy voice, "Okay, so if the top number is the atomic number, then the bottom number should be the atomic mass....correct?".
"Uh..sure" Dylan actually replies, this time, but with no enthusiasm and his eyes are still glued to his phone.
I've known Annabelle for a long time and it has always been very hard to get her mad. She's always been a generally happy person, but right now, you could tell that she is angry. With a disgusted glare in her eye Annabelle reaches her arm over the table and snatches his phone right out of his hands.
"What the heck! You can't just take my phone!" He shouts obviously angry.
Annabelle isn't phased by his shouting and says, "Ummmm. Yes I can. I have authority because I am a lady and I should be respected. And you, being on your phone all of the time, is NOT respectful to yourself or me. So, I suggest that you help with this project or your not getting your phone back."
Surprised by Annabelle's response, Dylan had his eyebrows slightly raised and a sly smirk.
"Woahhh. Wasn't expecting that response, cutie. Who would've thought that much sass could come out of you?"
At first Annabelle looks taken back, then she smiles but covers it up by furrowing her eyebrows and pointing at him and saying, "This is not a flirting matter 'Mr. I'm better than everyone'. I need to get this stupid project done and you are going to help me.".
"What if I don't." He challenges.
"Then your not getting your phone back." Annabelle says nonchalantly.
"Oh yeah?" He says reaching over the table to take the phone out of her hand but Annabelle quickly stuffs the phone in her bra.
"What the heck! Don't do that!" He yells.
"Oops. Sorry. Just did. Now, if you ever want to get it back, I suggest you help me with this project, okay Dumbo."
He stares at her for a second. It's hard to tell if he is mad, or what he is thinking. A cute little smirk makes its way on to his face then he says, "Alright, Tinker Bell. Whatever you say." Annabelle smiles triumphantly. "And yes the Atomic Number is on top and the mass is on bottom." Dylan continues. Annabelle lights up and goes off talking about all the plans she has for the poster. He is watching her and I swear I see interest on his eyes.
The bell rings and Brenda scoops up her bag and rushes out into the hallway, no doubt to see Carter. "Do you want to take it home and finish it?" I hear Annabelle ask Dylan as I roll up Brenda's and my poster.
"Not really." Dylan replies.
"Okay, well I have to go out to the field so I really need to go. Give me your number and I'll text you." Annabelle says giving him her phone. He just smiles and walks away with her phone in hand.
"Hey! That's my phone!" Annabelle yells after him but he has disappeared into the hallway. Annabelle turns toward me, shrugs and says,"I still have his phone.". I laugh and she says, "See you in seventh hour!" then also vanishes into the hallway, off to the baseball field for practice.
