The Flaming Target

Why me? Was all I thought as I sat in front of the principal's office. Why was it these things had to happen to me? It wasn't even my fault. Ms. Black asked me to show a few new freshmen how to use the bows in PE. And I was shooting one of the arrows, and as it hit the target, it caught on fire, and I got blamed. So there I sat as my aunt Hannah came out of the principal's office.

"Come on Selene. We're going home, honey. You have to pack." That was all aunt Hannah said as she walked out the office.

"Pack? For what? Aunt Hannah what's going on?" I stood and looked from aunt Hannah to Principal Wood, who just came out the door.

"Well, Miss.Grace, we have found a camp we believe might help you." Mr. Wood said." It's called Camp Olympus:A camp for troubled Teens. Your Aunt believes it would help, according to her this isn't the first time something has happened."

It was only slightly true. In middle school, I was friends with a girl, who I later learned had stage 3 leukemia. After sitting next to her in several classes, she got better. She was due to pass in April, but she is still alive thanks to me. At the time I thought it was so cool, then people started avoiding me and calling me a freak. Among healing, I had impeccable aim, and I could play any instrument I picked up, and the worst and best of them all, I could create a sickness, a plague of sorts and set it on anyone I wished.

"Don't worry this will be good for you my little archer." Aunt Hannah said.  Called me the nickname my mom gave to me before she died two years ago. She put her arms around me and said " You know your mom told me to send you there when the time was right, it was her wish."

"If -If my mom wanted this then it can't hurt to try, can it." I went to locker and got my things. My IPad, my pencils, pens, notebooks, and about 100 books I kept in there. As I shut my locker for the last time the bell rang. My peers, passed me with looks of disdain. A few of them mumbled under their breath"Freak." I ignored them and walked to the office.

"Aww if it isn't the little freakazoid." Stephanie the girl I healed walked up to me with her little entourage. "About time Principle Wood kicked you out."

"I saved you Stephanie, why do you do this?" I asked with a confused look. I saved her and then she became my biggest tormentor.

"That wasn't you Selene, it was science. Simple fact, there are no such things as powers to heal. Once you get that through your head, I might stop this, but not till then."She said about to walk away.

"Stephanie why don't you tell us about your boyfriend?" I asked. I forgot to mention one thing I can force the truth out of anyone I wish.

Stephanie turned back to me. "Which one? Dan? Or maybe Kyle? Or Mr. Wulf?"

" Isn't Dan, Kelly's boyfriend. And I know Kyle is dating Margret. And Mr. Wulf is your language arts teacher, right?"

" Dan and Kyle love me more than them. And Mr.Wulf, gives me good grades in exchange for certain things." She said smugly. I burst out laughing. Seeing the horrified faces of her friends Stephanie fled down the hall, nearly tripping in her 6 in stiletto heels.

Still laughing I continued my journey to the office. Serves her right, I wish I could see what was gonna happen tomorrow, but alas I'm finally done with Mount Saris High.  After getting to the office, and saying my farewells, I walked out to aunt Hannah's old soft top vintage Jeep. Then just as we left the school gates I looked back, not knowing that this would be the last look at normal I'd have for quite some time.
