The smaller male and the brunette made their way back through the trench. Eren had no idea how long it was going to take; he didn't even know how long it took for him to get there. All he had in mind was to make sure he returned this man to the base, the commander gaining the information he needed and then the war ending. The sooner it ended, the sooner he could return home.
But Levi thought differently. To him, there was no home. He doubted if the only family he had left was still alive, and even if he was, for how long? He could feel the pain soaring through his leg, every step painful..but he didn't complain. He almost didn't care. This was better than death...right?
But how long until he was shot, he didn't know. There was something he did know, though. He wasn't going to be telling that commander a thing. No way in hell. Just because this boy was kind enough to help him didn't mean he was going to-
Interrupted by his thoughts, he froze, his eyes locking with the horrific thing he saw beside him. Their glassy, blue eyes stared at him, blaming him for what happened, telling him it was all his fault.
Squirming out of the brunette's grip, he stumbled towards the large, buff, lifeless Hunan body, shaking at it even though he knew he wouldn't wake up.
"Erwin? Erwin, wake up." He helplessly pleaded but as expected, no response. Taking a deep, shaky breath, he brought his fingers to the blondes eyelids, closing his eyes, picking up one of his cold lifeless hands, holding onto it, knowing it'd be the last time he did.
"You've done enough now. Rest in peace." He softly said, fighting back the tears, placing the hand down beside him. His head hung low, he stumbled back to the taller male who instantly caught him, helping him.
Eren said and did nothing. He knew there was nothing to say and nothing to do. He watched with despair as he noticed how well the ravenette, who refused to tell him his name, took it. Did he have any sentimental relationship with him? No, that was none of his business and right now he had other things to be focussing on.
"I hope you know I'm not saying anything," Levi spoke monotonously. Eren swallowed the saliva that rested in his mouth before he spoke, his heart sinking lightly.
"I should've guessed.."
"So there's no point taking me back. Leave me here to die." He had just lost the only person he had left in life. What was the point? He had nowhere to go if this war ended..nowhere.
But Eren wouldn't have it. He didn't say anything. He just continued to walk.
"I told you to leave me here to die. It'd be easier for both of us if we did."
"I told you before. Maybe to you there's no point, but to me there is..I can't come back with nothing." He bluntly put. But there was another reason why. He didn't have the heart to just leave him alone in a murky, empty trench to bleed or starve to death. Just the thought of him sitting here all alone was beyond what his heart could take. But he didn't say it. That, there was no point in doing.
Finally, what seemed like a shorter time than what it took for him to get there, they arrived. He walked through the entrance and down the steps to the trench.
They entered a dimly lit room, tables scattered, unorganised, with soldiers talking, laughing, drinking. One turned their heads from their conversation and spotted Eren.
"Look. Jaeger's back." He said. Everyone hushed themselves, their gazes fixed on Eren and a smaller male in his arms.
"Where's the commander?" Eren asked.
"Jaeger. You actually got one. Where's everyone else?" One soldier said, looking around him.
"There is no one else.." He said, swallowing back the lump that had formed in his throat. Everyone's eyes widened, all staring at Eren then Levi then away, not saying another word, except from the one soldier Eren asked.
"Where he always is.." He said in a low tone. Nodding, Eren took the captive through another door that lead to a hallway. Silently, they walked to a wooden door.
He knocked a couple times before he heard a 'come in'. Opening the door, he revealed himself, the small ravenette resting his weight on him.
"Jaeger."
"Yes sir." he answered, straightening his posture slightly, although that was difficult since the other male's arm was resting on his shoulders, Eren holding onto it as an act of support.
"You're the only one?"
"Yes, sir." Eren hesitantly answered, avoiding eye contact.
"Right. Leave the captive here."
Eren nodded, placing the raven-haired boy onto the chair that sat in front of the commander.
"Good luck." he whispered so that only he could hear.
Levi's eyes widened ever so slightly in surprise, not expecting the tall, brunette to wish him luck, or say anything at the least.
"You are now dismissed."
"Sir, yes sir." Eren saluted before walking out, closing the door behind him. Taking a deep breath, he made his way back to his dorm, closing the door behind him.Looking over at the empty bed on the other side of the room, he could feel his heartache, the grief of his roommate and closest friend beginning to get to him. He had to fight back the tears. He was meant to be strong and he knew crying wouldn't bring him back but still...
"Oh Armin.." he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Why did it have to be you?"
