"Sam..."

"Sammy..."

"Samantha!"

Prying my eyes open to look at the brown eyed beauty, who is messing with my sleep. "What do you want Jessica?" i asked the sun was is peeking between the cardboard my father, Marco, put up so no one would see into the house.

"We're late." she said as she pointed at the hello kitty clock my mom bought me for my tenth birthday. She move a little to the right so i could see the clock that said 7:36am.

"Shoot." I say jumping over Jessica as she fell onto the twin sized mattress in the middle of the floor. I knew i would sleep through the alarm. i worked so late last night i didn't get home until 3:00am.

"Sorry L.J." i call over my shoulder as i race to my bathroom. as i put the toothpaste on my tooth brush i started thinking about how she got the nickname.

It was just after mom gave birth to her and i was allowed to come into the room. a little pink bundle in her arms. "Sammy look at your little sister." mom said with a look of pure happiness. i peered over her shoulder to look at the small alien type thing in her arms she reached for me and I'd be lying if i said i wasn't scared. "Want to hold her?" mom asked i was afraid I'd brake her she was so tiny because she came two months early. Right when i had her in the right position dad snapped a picture right when i uttered the name "L.J." for little Jessica.

i turned off the water and wiped Jessica's face with a wash cloth and set out her clothes.

She bounced into my room with a grin on her face i wish i could be that happy sometimes. She had on what i picked out. A pink hoodie with the word "smile" on it and jeans that i cuffed at the bottom because they are a little too big. i brushed her curly light brown hair in to pig tails.

We set off her bus stop a few minutes later eating toast with jam no it. "Tell Mrs. Greene I'm sorry that you missed 'esol' this morning it was totally my fault." i tell her while i brush the crumbs from her face when we came to a stop at the top of the hill.

"But Sammy i don't like 'esol' i want to walk with you every day." she says in the cutest voice known to man.

i see her bus coming down the small suburban street and turn to her "you want to be very smart right?" i ask. She nods her head up and down making a wave of curls from her pony tail holder. "Then 'esol' is the thing that will help you. i had to go when i was younger so now it's your turn." she nods and adjust her purple book bag.

The bus comes to a stop and i kiss her head "bye butterfly, te amo me amor." i call after her she turns around and waves. i watch the bus leave with a sad smile. it never gets easier letting her go. i turn and make the long walk to my school.

i enter the school breathing heavy, even though i take that walk everyday it's still hard. i make it to the office and Miss Blackthorn, a young woman no older than thirty, is typing on her desktop computer. "Ah, Samantha you're 45 minutes late young lady." she says in a motherly tone.

i sigh and sit in the uncomfortable chair placed in front of her desk. "i know, I'm sorry Miss." i tell her as i type in my student I.D. number on the small key pad with numbers on it, and fish out the actual I.D. from my book bag and pass it to her.

"Samantha this is the sixth time in the month. The next one will be an administrative detention for two hours." she says as she scans my card and hands it back to me. "Reason?" she ask as she's about to type my response

"i had to take my sister to the bus stop and wait with her." i say

"Your parents couldn't do it?"
