Connie gripped his Face and Practically flipped him into the room. The tall ladder he was standing on teetered and leaned to one side. Garnet rushed to the window and held it with her hand. She stretched it out and gently set the ladder down below before unstretching her hand. Connie and Steven awkwardly stared at Garnet, who looked at them and nodded.
"Continue." She said. Connie blushed and turned to Steven. He wrapped his arms around her and squeezed her tightly.
"You doofus, you could have gotten hurt." Connie said after pushing him playfully.
"Hey but I didn't. I'm just glad to be here with you." Steven said with a smile. Connie smiled back and placed a gentle kiss on his lips.
"What was that for?" He said after she stopped.
"For not getting hurt." She responded.
"Yo Connie get yourself some more of that BA Steven!" Amethyst yelled suddenly. Garnet slapped her in the back of the head.
"Ouch. Who's gem hit me in the back of the head?" Amethyst said while rubbing the spot where the stone hit her.
"Ruby. For ruining the moment." Garnet replied shortly. Amethyst scowled.
"We have to get back to the party before her mom realizes we're gone." Garnet said.
"Good, I'm still hungry." They shuffled out of the room after turning back into their, "disguises".
"Well now that they are gone, I wanted to ask you something I noticed." Steven said.
"What?" Connie said.
"Why are your eyes all red and puffy? Have you been crying?" Steven said with worry in his voice.
"I-I-"
"And by the way, who the crap is Timmy?" Steven said. Connie giggled.
"He's my distant cousin, we don't know each other well. My mom just offered to have his birthday party here. As you can see I don't feel like joining the party." Connie sat in the bean bag chair. Steven joined her and sat next to her in the same chair. They cuddled for what felt like a moment before Steven spoke,
"There's something I wanted to talk to you about..." He said. Connie looked at him. Her expression told him that she was equally happy and worried at what he was about to say. He rubbed the little patch of, "stone" on his side after standing up. Steven swallowed the ball in his throat and continued.
"I-I-I don't know how to tell you this...I love you so much, but I have to protect you. I don't wan't to hurt you too."
"Steven. What's wrong?" Connie said. He shamefully looked down. He brought his arm to his face and wiped the tears from his eyes.
"I didn't know it would be this hard to tell you."
"Steven what is it? Why are you crying?"
"Look, Connie...there is something wrong with me. And it first happened when I got-uh...poofed. The gem I fought was no ordinary gem. It was a warrior, and a disease. There is so much bad in me and this gem, is causing it. The crystal heart, in the temple. Was used as a weapon or something. The gems confused me a bit when they explained it. But it released a gem, it could have been any gem. And it took a form. I fought a giant snake on that beach." He chuckled. "It sounds crazy I know, but I did. I don't want to tell you how I got poofed. But it wasn't a great way, I'll tell you that." Connie sat in the bean bag chair, hanging on to every word. "It-uh...infected me with the gem. It's fighting me for control of my body and sometimes, I can't hold her back. The gem takes over when I'm enraged. When I'm so far gone that she steps in and takes control of the ship. But everyday she's in there. In my head. She tells me things that are so horrible I don't want to imagine it. But she forces me to and I just can't take it. Just today before I got here, she took over. She fought the gems even though they refused to fight back. I managed to push her away and get back in, but I don't know If I'll be able to do it again. When it's over, if it happens, she will take control. She will use my body and multiply into hundreds of other gems. And I will be gone..." Connie covered her open mouth with her hand and jumped up. She wrapped her arms around him and let her tears fall.
"Don't cry." Steven said.
"I can't help it. The thought of you being gone forever destroys me." Connie said.
"Please don't cry." He said.
"Have the gems at least found a way to get rid of her?"
"That's the problem. Only my mom knew how to get rid of the gem. She took it to her gem. She never told the others so now we're trying to find a way."
"What gem is it?" She asked.
"The worst of the worse...Adventurine."
Connie Separated from Steven and sat down in the chair again. He joined her and she put her head on his chest.
"What's so bad about her?" She asked.
"Everything. She was a warrior gem who just so happens to have some beef with the crystal gems." Connie giggled.
"What?" Steven asked.
"Great way of putting it." She said. He chuckled with her.
"Well how else am I-" he was cut off by a knock at the door. They stared at each other, frozen.
"Uh-who is it!?" Connie yelled. Steven jumped up. "HIDE!" Connie whisper yelled at him.
"Why does this happen everytime?" Steven whispered.
"I SAID HIDE!" Connie whisper yelled at him again. Steven ran around the room, looking for a place to hide.
"It's your mother. We are about to cut the cake, you have to be there." Dr. Maheswarens voice cut through the door.
"Why do I have to?" Connie yelled.
Steven opened the closet and shut it. He continued to run the around the room.
"Because, I don't want you to be pent up in your room all day. You need to socialize with your family." Connie groaned. Steven was still frantically running around the room.
"I'll go in a moment."
"No, I want you to open this door this instant." Dr. Maheswaren said.
"Fine let me just put my book away." Connie responded. She stood up and walked to Steven. She gave him a hug and a small kiss on the cheek. Steven smiled at her and dove under the bed. Connie walked to the door and opened it. Steven watched from under the bed as Connie walked away. Before she was completely out of his sight, she turned her head and shot a grin at him.
