I nearly choke... on air, I guess. "You what?!" I choke, certain I heard him wrong. "Oh no, I ruined everything," he mumbles as usual. "No," I say. "So do I."
Oh, I'm SO sorry I left you in suspense. Ah, who am I kidding, it was my plan all along. That's my kind of thing. All about the drama. That's how it is when you are the stereotypical actor. Always acting, always performing in the spotlight. Well, I try. I'm not shy, modest, or intimidated. I don't let anyone quiet me, humble me, or scare me. Sorry, but I'm just getting that out of the way. That'll be important for when we get to the actual story. Oh right. The actual story. So back to it.
Wait. Before that though, I should probably start at the beginning. No matter how much either of us WANT this to be where we begin, it isn't. (I must say, that WOULD make things MUCH easier. But then it wouldn't be as special.) So we pan in on the lead (me, of course) who is standing in the junior locker hall. Sam comes toward me and... "JORDAN!" she screams. "Yes?" I purr jokingly and flip my hair like a stereotypical cheerleader from High School Musical. "Ha ha," she says, coating her words in sarcasm. "Charlie just told everyone I made out with Grayson Bridges! But he's a jerk and incredibly ugly. Now he's going around saying bad things about me."
"Yeah, I can't imagine why he would want spread such horrible rumors about you when clearly all you've been is kind to him," I respond.
"I guess it's not that big a deal though. No one's going to ACTUALLY believe a word he says."
"Except for the fact that you're a huge slut," I laugh.
"That may be true," Sam says. "But I'm not slutty enough to resort to Grayson Bridges."
"Well if you aren't then no one is. Where is Charlie anyway?"
"Probably inhaling Twinkies or something."
"Sam!" I say, appalled. Now, Charlie isn't exactly very thin. Genes decided that she wasn't to be very skinny to begin with, and she then added on her usual diet of Funyuns and Dr. Pepper. In fact, I often use Charlie as someone to live up to. She doesn't idolize other girls or starve herself to stop being big. She doesn't complain like my girlfriends do, ("my stomach is too bloated!" or "my thighs are HUGE!") and that is a quality I idolize. She doesn't let anyone give her crap, and if they do she'll take them down. Now Charlie may not be a stick like me and know it, but Sam's comment was surprisingly rude. She is no stranger to offensive and judgy comments, but not about her best friend.
"Well you know it's true!" she says innocently.
"That doesn't make it okay."
"Sorry, I'm just really mad at her. Jamie is going to think I'm cheating on him."
"Well if he did it would be because you ARE."
"Whaaaaaaaaat...?" Her pitch goes up as she lies.
"It's pretty obvious. Spending time with people who are not your friends, family, or freaking BOYFRIEND kind of hinted at it."
"Is it really that obvious?" She winces.
"Only to your best friend. Who's the guy?" I ask.
"It's not romantic or anything. Jamie's just so boring, if you know what I mean."
"Yeah, I catch your drift. Hang out tonight?"
"I don't think so. I have to do some thing to do with my parents tonight."
"Suuuuuuuuure..." I say with raised eyebrows.
"I mean it!"
"Okay..." I respond smoothly, messing with her. I feel Sam glare at my back as I walk sassily away.
