Tom Nook to well care of his "nephews". He was like a father to them. he kept a roof over their heads, food in their mouths, and made sure they did well at their business. However, Tom wasn't really their uncle. Tom has no relatives that are known. no brothers or sisters. So what was the real truth? Where did Nook really find them? And why did he return back home from the city?

It had been not been going well in the city. Nobody seemed to be coming to his establishment for any purchases. His prices weren't cheap, but they weren't expensive either. Asking only for 20,000 bells for a full furniture set, which is about twelve pieces was a BARGAIN! Who knows how much that would be if you added up all the prices. But he has the same set on display, on nobody had even come to store to look at it. Usually he would only sell a rug or carpet, and an occasional flower pot. But lately nobody had even walked by the front door. Everything was cheaper at Redd's shop. Because he became part of the black market. Hmph. Find any piece of junk and sell it for as overpriced as you can. You could get everything at Tom's establishment for much cheaper than Redd. Even if it wasn't cheaper, at least Tom's goods were LEGAL! Who knows where Redd got his crud from.

Tom's boss had called him in, telling him his store would have to shut down. He was running out of money, and his business was failing. That was the day he got fired. He hardly had any money left, since whatever he had was given to his boss. Not only that but Nook was almost thinking of selling his home.

When he was walking around for a cheaper place to live such as an apartment, he noticed a small box. Well, he didn't really notice it. He kind of tripped over it, accidentally. Wiping his scrape, which luckily was nothing serious, he saw the box said "Shipped from Boondox. To anyone who might find." Tom shrugged. Maybe he was in luck, something that he could sell. So he pulled the tab of the box, and out popped two little Tanuki heads. They're eyes were huge and both of the, blinked at the same time, in a cute yet odd way. What was he gonna do with these? The two leaped out of the box. Cue a simultaneous, squeaky toned, "HM?" from both of them. They clinged onto Tom with their dear life. It was somewhat cute. On the bottom of the box seemed to be a half eaten piece of cardboard. Tom is surprised they didn't eat their way out of the box. He sighed, picking them up and walking. All the apartments that were for sale were way too expensive for him, and he could barely survive on his own. He had two options. Beg on the street, and risk two little Tanuki's lives. Or return home, unsuccessful getting a bunch of "I told you so's," and "you ungrateful piece of ****."

Tom needed to buy a train ticket. They were quite expensive, but at least this time he didn't need to pay for a luggage ticket. This would be trick, since the ticket costed about a thousand bells. He could hardly afford that himself. He sold everything he could, including the gifts his dear friend made. Except for one shirt. After all selling was done, he earned 1,789 bells. Not enough for three tickets. He had nothing left to sell. So he simply bought a cheap bag for 500 bells. He stuffed the Nooklings in the bag, gave them a loaf of bread to munch on, which costed 200 bells, and covered the top with the shirt Sable made. This wasn't going to be an easy train ride home. Who knows what would happen if he got caught. After paying for this ticket, he would only have 89 bells to his name. Tom sighed. There was nothing he could do.

Tom walked up to the train station. This was goodbye to the city. The place he thought he could call paradise. He had been mistaken great fully. Tom slid the bag of bells to the man, and headed on the train. Luckily for him, the Nooklings had been quiet, happily munching quietly on their bread. Tom made sure to stay awake the whole ride, and as soon as the bell dinged, he stood up and ran off the train. Luckily walking to his old home, nobody noticed him and his bag. As soon as he got home, he let the Nooklings out of the bag. He put a handkerchief on each of the nooks. Their names were now Timmy and Tommy.

Nook sighed, realizing he has no way of earning money, not like he needed it here. Tom built his house, so no rent was needed. That's where he found out his business. He would open up an establishment to sell some tools, trees, and furniture. Tom could also build houses for new comers and have them pay rent. A smile fell on his face, something he hasn't done in a while. He finally realized everything he needed and wanted was right here. At home. In the village.
