She was about 5”5, had hair as black as a raven’s wing. She weighed maybe a hundred pounds and had eyes as blue as the ocean. Her face was the shape of a heart, and her smile could stop anyone’s heart. She was alone. This was mostly because she didn’t talk. Many had tried to get her to speak but all had failed. It wasn’t that she couldn’t talk, she just didn’t. Those who had tried eventually gave up and left her to her reading, and writing as well as her music.

It wasn’t completely her choice to be alone either. Before she started school she had be neglected. She was rarely talked to and when she was it was to tell her to do something quiet or that children should be seen not heard. She learned to read so she had something to do. She was also a very good artist. She was about three and a half when she found these passions. Her uncle had sat down with her and would read to her, eventually he started pointing words out to her and making her read them. He would bring her notebooks and taught her how to write and draw.

Her brother had went to school when she was about that age and therefore wasn’t around to keep her company, so, she was alone except for her uncle. But she never minded. She loved it when Uncle Dan would come, they would read, write and draw. While he was around she wasn’t alone and her parents didn’t tell her to be quiet. He was her haven, and to her the best person in the world. She had even claimed he was perfect once. When he’d heard her say that he went on to tell her stories about him and her mom that made her laugh at the irony. They always depicted him as a rebel, and her mom a devilish lady.

But now she was sixteen and Uncle Dan was gone, having passed away five years before. Now she had no one. She was completely alone with her brother still going to college for various things. The last time she’d talked to him he’d said something about going for his major in encryption and getting his minor in law. He’d also said he hoped to get a job for the government working encryption or start his own company. He didn’t say what kind of company though and she was constantly wondering.

He would occasionally come to one of her parent’s parties when he wasn’t at school, and she would go as well because she was expected to. She still didn’t talk. One of her parent’s friend’s son would attempt to get her to talk but was unsuccessful. It never worked because she was to shy. The only person she felt understood her was her Uncle Dan and he was gone. No one else really wanted to hear how she felt. After all didn’t they just love the saying “children should be seen not heard”. She was the perfect example of this saying. Her parents were happy not hearing her. They only wanted to see her.

After all she was the spitting image of the two of them. Her father had blue eyes, and her mother a face shaped like a heart. Both were the perfect image of a model, but neither was. Instead her father was making his money off of owning his own medical company. Those who worked for him would go and fix CAT scans and MRI’s. They were field service engineers. She could still remember when her dad didn’t own the company. When it was a happier time.

That was when her dad had worked for others. He had worked his way up in companies and gained many years of experience. He could complete all of the tasks of his workers ten times better and more efficiently. Instead he had decided he wanted to participate in the social and political aspect of his job. Lucky for her she was in school.

The school she attended was fairly large with over 1500 students in attendance. Regardless of the size of the school she still had few friends, and the few she had she’d met in chat sites. New students arrived every month, and most were accepted in one group or another to replace someone who’d left. Yet she always sat alone.
