In a small village near the ocean lived a young girl who dreamed of becoming a mermaid.  She would go to the ocean shores every day before sundown to observe the waves and watched the fishes swim.  Growing up the young girl would hear wonderful stories about an underwater society of mermaids.  The young girl’s fascination remained in tacked over the years as she grew into a well-mannered beautiful girl with expressive eyes.

The young girl’s father was a sailor, on the young girl’s sixteen birthday; she was allowed to accompany her father on a cruise.  A great storm arose while the young girl and her father were sailing causing both the young girl and her father to fall into the ocean.  After the storm had died down, the young girl woke on shore and began to search frantically for her lost father.  Desperate and with very little hope the young girl began to cry frantically on the ocean shore.

As the young girl cried a low whisper was heard from a cave on the shore.  Surprised the young girl proceeded into the cave to find an older woman with a dark cloak wrapped around her.  “Do not cry my child, I can make everything better my dear” said the older woman as she raised an arm to the young girl.  The young girl cautiously took the old woman’s hand.  “My dear you have a choice to make.  I have been watching you for several years and I know about your fascination with mer folk.  I have an offer for you.  Would you like to hear my offer child?”  The young girl nodded her head in agreement as she whipped the tear stains from her face.  “I can make you a mermaid my dear, but I need you to do two things for me.  One I need you to give me your enchanting voice and two I need you to murder your beloved father.  Do you agree?” asked the old woman with a sweet smile.  Shocked by the old woman’s offer the young girl starred off into space for several moments.  Impatiently the old woman walked farther into the cave and lifted a dark shape from the ground.  As the old woman walked back towards the young girl, the young girl noticed the dark object become much clearer.  The dark object was her injured father.

The young girl let out a small cry as she watched the old woman throw her father on the ground.  The old woman swiftly pulled out a sharp sea shell from her cloak and placed it in to the young girls palm.  :Kill him my dear and your dream will come true.”  The young girl looked down at her weeping father as he slowly begged with his eyes.  The young girl raised the sharp shell into the air and in a rapid motion as she stabbed her father’s heart.  The young girl proceeded in stabbing her father for several moments before a wicked laughter was heard in the background.  The young girl slowly raised her hear to see a horrifying eel like creature with razor teeth take the place of the old woman.  The eel slowly slide its way towards the young girl and began to suck the blood spilling from the young girl’s father.

The young girl walked several feet away from the eel as she wept at her horrible action.  Several moments had passes before the old woman took the eels placed and handed the young girl a warm dark red liquid.  “You must drink this potion my dear for your lovely voice is mine, only after you drink this may I give you your heart’s desire.”   The young girl drank the red bitter liquid and she slowly begun to feel light headed.  After several moments the young girl fell into deep darkness.

It was dark outside and the moon shined bright onto the young girls face as she slowly stirred from her deep slumber.  He head felt as if it was pounding following the rhythm of her rapid heart.  The young girl slowly rubbed her head as her vision became visible.  Slowly looking down the young girl noticed that she no longer had legs but instead in place was a long beautiful fish like tale.  Excitement arose in her but it was quickly replaced with sadness.  Sadness for she had paid a very high price, her father’s life in exchange for a chance of living her dream.  Weeping the young girl slowly picked up a sharp rock from the ground and stabbed herself.  Blood slowly dripped out of the injured spot and landed on the clear sand leaving a trail of fresh blood.  The young girl felt her life slip from grasp.  As the young mermaid died slowly she began to turn into beautiful sparks dissolving into the night sky.  The young mermaid was no more.
