When I was in kindergarden, there was this boy who was always silent. He kept to himself. And he seemed to like it that way. He didn't bother anyone, and no one bothered him. There was only one memory I have of him that baffles me. I was walking home from the bus stop when these boys grabbed my backpack. They yanked harshly on my backpack strap and I went down on the ground. Ash went up to them and he punched the kid straight in the nose. I was surprised by not him helping me, but his strength.
It was that way for the rest of the year- Ash being by himself. And again in the first grade. And in second grade. All the way to middle school. But the routine changed.
In sixth grade, I didn't see him again. And I didn't see him again until eleventh grade. To my surprise, he changed. In a good way.
I think...

I left my house to start my first day as a junior in Westwell High. I was pretty excited. I was almost a senior. Then I would continue my journey in a university.
Outside, the weather was rather gloomy. Then again, in Oregon, it's always gloomy in the fall.
I hitched my bag higher on my shoulder and made my way towards the bus stop. The skies were completely covered with dark, grey clouds. A slight drizzle had begun when I made it to the bus stop.
"Cas," I heard somewhere behind me. I turned and saw someone I haven't seen in forever.
Ash.
The loner since kindergarden. But the boy in front of me didn't look like the boy I remember. The Ash then was sad. Alone. The Ash in front of me had a light I've never seen before. He had handsome features. A straight nose, a pronounced jaw, a mouth that were the home to plump lips. He looked like a chiseled god. His green eyes were brighter, like the color of mossy jungle. His height was astounding as well. Above six feet tall. He was a block of muscle; lean, but not like a bodybuilder.
It seems I took too long to answer because his eyes glowed with amusement.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
I quickly sobered up. "Yes. Sorry. It's just that you look different from- from elementary school."
He smiled. "You were always the only one to notice."
Before I could reply, the school bus pulled up. Ending our quick chat. I quickly climbed on the bus and sat at the front.
I couldn't shake the feeling of eyes staring at me from the back of my head.
Green eyes.
