Brave _ Sara Bareilles
It is mid summer and Ruby has a sleeping party with her best friend Merida when they suddenly begin te talk about the family drama of Merida.
"I don't know how long I can take this. They are allways fighting about everything. The worst part is that they don't even look at me and my sister, Sophia, anymore. we live practically on our own." Merida says angry. Ruby knows all about the Corona family. They were after all best friends since kindergarden.
Being her longtime best friend, Ruby feels the need to support her, so that's what she does: " You know that I don't like to give long speeches but this time, you need it. You CAN be amazing, you can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug. That's just how you are. You can be the outcast or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love or you can start speaking up. That's really the only thing you got to do. Nothings gonna hurt you like their words do when they settle 'neath your skin, kept on the inside and no sunlight sometimes a shadow wins. But I wonder what would happen if you..."
Ruby stops talking to her friend and studies her really good. Merida stares at her confiused. "If I what, Ruby. What would happen is I what?"
"If you say what you wanna say and you let your words fall out. Honestly I wanna see you be BRAVE with what you want to say! And you just have to let your words fall out. Honestly, I wanna see you brave for you and your sister." Ruby says brave. She really believes that her friend can stand up for herself. Not only herself but also her sister. Merida's family really is something else, she practically lives at Ruby's house. Like that she doesn't hear and see the fighting at her house.
"Everybody's been there, everybody's been stared down by their family. Fallen for the fear and done some disappearing. Bow down to the mighty. But don't run, stop holding your tongue. Maybe there's a way out of that house where you live. Maybe one of these days you can let the light in. Show them and the world how big your brave is!"
When Ruby stares at het bff, she sees that she has tears in her eyes. She doen't like to see Merida cry so she hugs her. When they pull away, Ruby lets her arm rest on Merida. Then she continues.
"Innocence, your history of silence. Won't do you any good. Did you think id would? Let your words be anything but empty. Why don't you just tell them the truth? Say what you wanna say and let your words fall out. Honestly I wanna see you be brave. I really do! I know that you can stand up against your parents. You are so much more worth than this treatment you get. I wanna see you be brave with what you want to say, just let your words fall out. Honestly, I wanna see you be brave!"
Ruby ends her speach and sees Merida crying. Together they lay on her bed in silence. Merida breaks the silence when she says:" That was really beatiful, Ruby! Thank you for your speach, it really helpt me. Tomorrow when I come home, I will talk to my parent about how I feel and I will think of you while I do that. You really are the perfect best friend anybody could have! Your are my gardian angel, my hero. Thank you!" Ruby smiles at her and answers:" It's nothing, I just want to see my best friend laugh and she was crying, so I needed to help."
During the whole night they cuddle on the bed while they watch movies. After a couple of movies they fall asliep, both with a smile on their face.
The following day, Merida does what Ruby told her to do, she talks to her parents, she is being BRAVE. After the conversation, the family is one happy family again. Merida'd parents promised her that they would love their kids again and they would try to fight less than before.

So if something happens at home, be yourself. Be BRAVE! Speek up for yourself because nobody can stand up for you like you stand up for yourself. Even is your friend needs some help, encourage her. Not only cause she needs it, but also because you love her and you care about her. Hope you like the story! Love ya!!!~C
