Monnie Millie Monika was a very bad little girl. She never said, 'excuse me' after she burped, or, 'bless you' after someone sneezed. Many times she would even flip her plate, spilling her food all over the table. Her parents were very upset.
Her parents needed an etiquette teacher. So, they called Mrs. Bullfight.
"Monnie Millie Monika," Mrs. Bullfight scolded. "Your manners are horrifying," she said after observing Monnie Millie Monika eat at the dinner table.
"You have not set the table properly, not folded your napkin across your lap, or used your fork and spoon. You also tipped over your milk, didn't thank the Lord for the food he provided, or thank your parents for making the meal. A few other things that have been done incorrectly are you didn't ask to be excused after you ate, you didn't use your napkin, you used your sleeve instead, you brought your stuffed monkey to the table to eat and play with, and you turned your napkin into an airplane."
Monnie Millie Monika looked down at the ground ashamed. She hadn't known she had been doing table manners wrong. This was how she and her friends played when they properly ate their meals at lunch. Her parents were very pleased at the teacher's deduction. They ended the lesson for the day.
That night, at dinner, Monnie Millie Monika forgot the scolding that morning, and continued to carry on at dinner.
"MONNIE MILLIE MONIKA!!!" Her parents shouted in disappointment. "Where are your manners?!"
They sent Monnie Millie Monika to her room without dessert.
The next day, Mrs. Bullfight came again to go over Monnie Millie Monika's manners.
"Your posture is preposterous! You didn't pass your food, and ate before all the food was on everyone's plates. But, I have to say, you did chew your food with your mouth closed, and thanked everyone for your food."
Monnie Millie Monika thought she could never learn table manner etiquette. Her parents were joyous that she was improving.
Monnie Millie Monika decided that she would practice her manners with her teddy bears and tea set.
The following day Mrs. Bullfight arrived to an almost perfect luncheon.
"You did very well, you didn't stick out your elbows, or tap your feet against the tile. You pushed in your chair when you asked to be excused from the table. You didn't complain about the food that was on your plate and ate every bite. You also asked for the food instead of reaching for it. You washed up and used the bathroom before dinner. But, you did burp after drinking your milk and you slurped your soup."
Monnie Millie Monika felt very proud of herself. Her parents were proud too. Mrs. Bullfight congratulated Monnie Millie Monika and left with a wide smile on her face. Monnie Millie Monika went to school the next day to show her friends how you should properly eat at the dinner table. Her friends were amazed and learned with all their might.
