Charlie looked at Beth with a singular eyebrow raised, he then looked back to the phone to see Rowena moving sheets of paper and various other items from around the room, what he didn't know, was why. She had known something to up for years but could never seem to figure it out. Whenever she was at the house, Rowena would find a way into rooms she didn't know existed but could never find anything to back her claim up. She had gotten so nosey that Charlie had taken extra precautions to make sure every room that contained valuable Shadowhunter information was locked away. How she had gained access to that room was a complete mystery.
Both of them watched Rowena on the footage and neither could figure out what she was looking for, although it had to be something based on their so-called 'secret identity'. Luckily for them, there were no weapons in the house and nothing that could have given away where they were or what they were. Well, other than the bright red button that was flashing behind a sheet of paper. How she hadn't noticed that was something they would never figure out. It wasn't like it was subtle either. "You're lucky we answered this call, had it have been anyone else then they would have gone straight to the house, no questions asked," Isabelle said, looking over at Beth and Charlie.
"Rowena would have loved that, some randomers appearing in the middle of the house with weapons. She would have thought we were part of the mafia," Charlie joked, looking over at Isabelle and checking the footage on the phone.
"Who's Rowena?" Jonathan asked, looking at the two of them curiously. Beth had never thought to tell Jonathan about her friend back home because they never seemed important. After all, what Shadowhunter cares about Mundanes? Especially when there are more important things to be worrying about then Mundanes. Besides, it wasn't as if the two of them had ever had the time to discuss Beth's life back in England.
"A Mundane from back home. She was always trying to find something to prove we were living some kind of double life. A bunch of Shadowhunters turning up out of the blue would have made her day," Beth said.
Charlie watched the video footage of Rowena as she continued to search the room for something incriminating. He knew there was nothing there, but he was scared she would find something nonetheless. Charlie was also aware of the flashing button on the desk that was going unnoticed. Had Rowena noticed, who knows what she would have done?
"We need to get her out of the house," Charlie stated, watching as she approached the hidden button.
"How? We can't just show up, she thinks I'm ill. Remember?" Beth replied, curious as to how they would go about removing Rowena without giving their secret away. There was no way they could do it.
"We could portal to the outside of the house and ring the doorbell. See what she does," James piped up from the back of the room.
Beth had completely forgotten her biological parents were still there and had not even looked at them since they had entered the room. She thought they had left, but apparently she was wrong as they kept making appearances throughout the Institute. Beth was surprised that James had spoken up and was willing to do something to help them. After all, they hadn't exactly been much help before. Elizabeth hadn't spoken at all. Instead, her eyes were fixed on the ground and she was playing with her fingers, paying no attention to what was going on around her.
Charlie looked to his brother, a questioning glance flashed across his face as he did so. Even he didn't expect James to help with the situation as he had done so little of that in the past. He knew that Elizabeth wouldn't agree to it because she was too scared of both Beth and Jonathan. She was frightened of her lashing out like she had done to Jocelyn. There was no way of convincing her that Beth wasn't up to know good because she was so focused on her being evil. Whether she would join in with her husband or not was going to be interesting.
