I picked up my plate off the counter and started filling it up with food. I did so angrily, though. All this wasn't really for me. Flashback to a couple of minutes before:
"Well, since I'm staying here you should take good care of me!"
"What?! I never said you could stay here!"
"B-but you have to..." Her eyes welled up with tears. "I have no where else to go."
"Ugh, fine. Whatever. Just stop the waterworks."
I was bowing down to her because of her tears. Since when did I become such a pushover? Grr... I guess because she's so small, she probably couldn't fend for herself very easily... Ack! Why am I giving her excuses?!
I kept piling on food until the plate was full. I noticed Uncle look over from the table. "Wow, I'm glad you're feeling good enough to eat that much! Take it easy, though..."
I wish I could tell him all of this was for a pint sized fairy.
--
"Awww! But I don't like brocoli!" She whined.
"Just eat it. You said to take good care of you, so you should at least eat healthy." I pushed the plate closer to her.
"Fine. It's not like I need it anyway," she said, picking up the seemingly bush-sized broccoli, "I'm really fit, you know."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah! It takes a lot of muscle to fly!" She bit into the broccoli but practically spit it back out.
"Are all the other fairies as rude as you?"
"...I don't know." She suddenly seemed distant. "I've never met another fairy, or at least, I can't remember that I have."
"So, you might be the last of your kind then?" I asked, picking up a piece of chicken.
"Maybe..." She sat the broccoli back on the plate and walked off. "Sorry, I'm not hungry."
"W-wait! You made me get all that food and you're not even gonna eat any of it?"
"Idiot. I can't eat all that. You must be stupid."
Now she's really getting on my nerves. "Why you little-"
"Sorry. Just give me some space, will ya?" She sulked off and sat down on my windowsill.
I guess that's a touchy subject. I continued to eat the food that was left over on the plate before carrying it back downstairs.
When I returned she wasn't at the window. "Hey! Phi!" I called out for her, but she didn't answer. "Phi-"
"Miosy, what are you doing?" I stopped and turned around to see Uncle standing in my doorway.
"Er, uh, looking for a beetle. It's been in here so long I decided to name it." I turned back around and knelt to the ground, looking under my bed. "Here Phi, come out!" This is embarrassing.
"R-right, " he cleared his throat. "Miosy, I wanted to ask you about school."
I got up off the ground and looked at him. "Okay, what about it?"
"I know you and Finch are really close," I had to keep myself from bursting out into laughter, "but I think you should try to make some new friends. I'm... a little worried about you."
I thought this question was odd, until I remembered he just saw me on my hands and knees talking to a "beetle".
"Er, don't worry about it, Uncle. I don't need that many friends. I'm more of a loner anyway," I shrugged.
