Hominiede strolled through the town, leaving her interrogators behind. She felt their stares piercing into her back. She didn't care. They weren't familiars to the town and most likely wouldn't be seeing her around. She had work to do, and this threadbare village didn't have anything that could possibly lead to an answer.
She walked from town to town, periodically slaying a beast or two to have a food supply. She camped out in the woods, and arose at dawn, merely to repeat this routine again. Her only comfort was herself. Her only hope was her capability. Her only company was her own personality. It was even to Hominided's own personal surprise that she didn't grow weary of it all. Even so; what choice did she have whether or not to rescue her father? No one else was willing.
She crossed over to another village that looked dark, melancholy, and all but ordinary. A place where a guardian would live. The streets, alleyways, and sky were all their own tints of darkness. The people and the shining sickle moon were the only pale things here. Everything else was severely dull. She walked into a nearby tavern and was inexplicably close to turning right back around when she saw who was joining her.
The same five people who had questioned her in the alley back in the first town she crossed were here now. They seemed to dislike the scenery just as much as she did. The food the people served at the place looked nothing more appetizing than slop (if it deserved to be called that at all!) and everything had a dead look to it. Hominiede decided not to bother with the five travelers for fear she might be remembered and headed over to what was really catching her eye.
It was an enormous tower that was black as the rest of the town, just creepier and more melancholy and depressing. Hominiede sucked in a breath and marched over to the tower. She slowly strolled up the many flights of stairs; observing the area around her. She started to have second thoughts, but she was already close to the top. "Too late to turn back now." She told herself. She had jokingly expected the thing she saw on the other side of the door.
Hominiede drew back a little when she saw that this fun house of a manor belonged to a vampire. Not much less than she expected. Her eyes narrowed during the man's ridiculous and utterly dramatic introduction when she saw the cat shaped ring on his finger. Her thoughts raced, 'He's a guardian? No wonder he's so incredibly stupid now, he's let his shushu get out of hand! "Enough of this foolishness, now I'm here to have a serious one on one with this shushu!"
The ring on the Iop's finger snarled. "You dare speak to my Vampyro that way? Just what other insolence do you have in that raven head of yours?"
Vampyro's purring voice could have attracted cats. "Now, sweetheart, all she wants is a question or two. Surely we can allow that can't we?"
The shushu narrowed her eyes and hissed, "Well, fine then. Just what could you possibly want, little girl?"
Hominiede drew her crossbow and held it at ready fire, "I want some info, that's what! Where has King Rushu kept my father?"
The feline sneered at the question. "And what of that knowledge should I give you?"
Hominiede slightly dropped her weapon. "Ahh, I see," she said smugly, "You don't have any idea, do you? Of, course. I really should've known that the great king himself would only entrust that kind of information in a more worthy and competent shushu unlike yourself!"
While the cat hissed a few threats and a few choice curses, the raven haired hybrid looked up at a canister filled with a certain liquid. Inside that canister, she recognized the Cra in a white cotton night dress.
Right when she was about to ask, the little boy in the blue hat, the Sadida, and the old Enutrof burst through the door. And Hominiede had a feeling that she knew why they were here. They wanted the girl back. She wasn't sure about joining forces with anyone, but she figured that since the demon ring wouldn't give her a good answer, it was her enemy now. However the minute she tried to shoot the ring off of Vampyro, the corners of her eye went black, and she collapsed.
When she arose, the Iop, who had apparently stopped Vampyro, was standing over her. "What happened to the shushu? I wanted to know.... Where...?"
The Cra walked over, "She's delirious. Let her come with us to rest and see if anyone comes to look for her." She looked over to Hominiede. "Can you stand?"
Hominiede nodded. She was lead back down the tower where she noticed that the town was turning into more of a sunny and exciting place. Suddenly, Hominiede realized that she had forgotten about the shushu guardian. She figured that if the ring didn't have the answers, the Iop did. She looked over to the other
Iop and noticed that his sword was his shushu.
Hominiede really hoped that the Iop would trust her, "Would you mind handing me your sword?"
The Iop gave her a questioning look. "How come?"
They went back and forth. "I want to talk to it."
"Wait, so you can talk to them?"
"As far as I can remember, anyone can. So may I see it?"
The Iop reluctantly gave her his sword. The shushu rolled its eye sarcastically. Hominiede continued, "Wait for me here. I'll be taking this with me to talk to that Vampyro guy. Well, you could also wait for me at the bottom but either way, you'll get your sword back, Hybrid's honor!"
She walked for only a few steps but she could hear the Sadida talking about her. "What is it with this girl and these shushus? Why is she so obsessed with talking to them?"
The Cra talked now. "Amalia's right. We don't know whether or not we can trust her."
The old Enutrof put in his thoughts on it. "She could be loaded with kamas though. Have you seen the way she dresses? A lot fancier than you girls that's for sure."
Hominiede quit listening. She'd heard enough to know that they didn't trust her any more than she trusted them. She stared into the shushu's eye and started to talk to it. "So, do you trust me at all? What was your name again? Rubilax! Yes that's it."
"Well you seem pretty good for a non-guardian." he answered.
"So, when we get up to the top, I have a question or two to ask you and that Iop."
"Things like what?"
"You'll see. We're here now."
Hominiede pushed open the door once again to find the Iop that she had wanted to talk to. "Hey, Vampyro?"
He turned around. "You're the girl from before, aren't you?"
She nodded. "I wanted to ask you something about the shushus and King Rushu."
Vampyro looked a bit scared and a bit interested at the same time. "Well what kind of question?"
"Well," Hominiede started, "Do you know what kind of information King Rushu let's the rest of the shushus know?"
Vampyro shook his head. "I don't know, but that shushu will." He pointed to Rubilax.
"The only thing the king lets us know is when we have a new enemy, ally, or dimension to destroy. Or who has to give him his hourly massages."
"Anything about any prisoners?"
"I personally didn't know that the king took prisoners."
"Hm. Well thanks anyway Rubilax. Oh and you too Vampyro. Be sure to stay outta trouble with that shushu okay?"
With that, Hominiede tossed Rubilax blade first out the window and then jumped out herself.
When she fell the Iop had surprisingly caught both her and Rubilax. He stared at her for a minute before saying "You know, you're really beautiful..." he leaned in to kiss her. Hominiede gave him a disgusted look and shoved the palm of her hand into his lips. "Eww. No! I am not going to do that! And you can put me down now."
She jumped out of the knight's arms and looked over at the rest of the group. They all gave questioning looks to her. The little boy smiled, and soon the Sadida did too. "Well I guess anyone who's annoyed by Percedal is fine with me."
"What do you mean?" Hominiede wasn't sure what the girl was talking about.
The Cra walked over to her. "We talked it over and Yugo here figured that if you didn't have anywhere to stay, or anyone to travel with, that you could travel with us." she motioned to the little boy in the blue hat.
The hybrid nodded. "Since I have missed having company for a while.... And I could use help with what I'm doing. I accept. When do we leave?"
Percedal shrugged. "Well, how about now? There's nothing left for us here."
The raven hair nodded. "Yeah. We should go." She started to walk when Yugo called after her. "Hey, wait!"
She turned around. "Yes?"
Yugo continued. "You never told us your name. What is it?"
"Hominide. The middle child of The Hybrids of Bonta."
"The Hybrids of Bonta?" all five of them questioned.
Before anyone could ask her, she automatically backed it up, "Never mind that. That'll be a conversation for later on when the time's right."
The group marched onward out of that town. With Hominiede as their new partner. She felt finally known. Solitude was alright. But having a few comrades was better.
