Jailene Short Story :)

*beep-beep*beep* You’re laying down, just waking from a long sleep. Your head is pounding and your throat is dry. When you open your eyes, all you can see is the blurry outlines of your surroundings. Slowly, you begin to hear the obnoxious beeping of a machine. You put your hand up to the part of your head that is hurting the most. While reaching up, you feel strings of tubes following your arm. As you are regaining your sight you look to see that you are in a hospital bed connected to the EKG that is the source of the beeps. You look around the bare room to see the dim lights of the city shining through your window. You want so desperately to move, but you know you can’t. Every inch of your body is stiff. You close your eyes with pain and try hard to collect the knowledge of what happened. As you rub your head once more, you suddenly remember everything.
—
You and Jairus are in your bedroom, laying on your bed and cuddling. He’s telling you a story about a family trip he had. You’re laughing at the embarrassing parts, making worried faces at the scary parts, and smiling at the parts where you can tell he misses the moment. Jairus' stroking your hair and looking at your ceiling as you close your eyes and listen to his voice. The raspy, deep voice that you love so much. When he finishes his story he still continues to stroke your hair. You two end up dozing off even though you both know he isn’t allowed to spend the night. Not long after you are asleep, your dad crashes through the door enraged.
“You know the rules, Jairus! Get out!” Your dad screams.
“Dad! I’m sorry! We both fell asleep! It’s my fault!” You fight back.
“It’s not your fault at all! It’s his! He’s a teenage boy! All he wants to do is take advantage of you and then break your heart!” Your dads says. You know that’s not the truth because Jairus has never tried anything like that with you and he never plans to.
“Then you don’t know him at all! He would never! Why are you acting like this?!” You scream. You look over to Jairus who looks half-terrified and half-angry. He shakes his head meaning you should stop but you’re so angry that you can’t help but continue to argue.
“I was a boy his age once, honey, he doesn’t want anything but a physical relationship. He needs to leave and never come back. You’re not allowed to see him again!” He says. This is the breaking point for you. Jairus is offended and you can tell by his expression.
“You can’t tell me who I can or can’t see! I love Jairus and he loves me. You can’t keep us apart!” You scream.
“Watch me!” Your dad threatens. He points to the door and Jairus hurries out. Tears are forming and your emotions begin to take over. You’ve never felt so hurt. Jairus is the only guy you will ever love and you have to watch him walk away.
“No! If he’s leaving and can’t come back, then neither will I!” You yell as you run out the door. When you catch up to him, you grab his arm and turn him around. As you look at his face, you see a tear fall from his eye. “Bebe, don’t cry. Please. We’ll get out of here. Just you and I.” You assure. He looks at you as he shakes his head.
“Your dad hates me and I’ve been trying so hard all this time for him to like me.” He protests. “I love you so much, but you can’t leave.” He takes your hand.
“Just for the night. I need time away from him.” You say. Jairus looks into your eyes and you can tell he is thinking. “If we leave now, we can go to your dad’s cabin for the night. We can be alone.” You encourage.
“Just for the night.” Jairus states. You nod and follow him to his car. As you drive off, you look back at your house to see if your dad even followed you out. He didn’t. You hate that he doesn’t care. Being with Jairus makes you feel loved more than anything. He protects you and makes you feel safe and secure. The car drive is anything but silent. Jairus holds your hand as you two laugh as if nothing happened. Jairus looks into your eyes as he puts his hand on your knee.
“I love that laugh,” he smiles. “Almost as much as I love you.” He finishes. You’re about to say it back when the whole car jolts violently. Jairus protectively puts his arm out in front of you. You watch the car flip once and then everything blacks out.
—
As you garner every second of the event, you sit up. No matter how much it hurts, you are determined to find him. Everything feels slowed down. You’re in just a hospital gown but that doesn’t matter right now. You bolt out of the room and go right. Two rooms down you find the room with Jairus in it. His mom is at his side holding his hand, crying. When you open the door, she looks up. As she makes eye contact with you, she starts crying a little harder. The EKG is beeping for Jairus so you’re confused at why she’s crying.
“What? What’s wrong?” You ask frantically. After a few minutes of her crying she tells you that he’s in a coma. It doesn’t relieve you, but it makes you feel a bit better. However, days go by and he still hasn’t woken up. You spend every day in his room, listening to his favorite music, watching his favorite shows, and just waiting for him.
A month goes by when his mom finally decides it’s time. You beg and plead her to give him more time. The doctors tell both you and her that there’s almost no chance he’ll come back. You don’t want to believe it even though, deep down, you know it’s the truth. When she breaks the news on the day they’re going to do it, you spend an hour crying in his room holding his hand.
The time comes where they have to pull the plug. You have to leave the room, but you want to spend the last minutes with him. They have to force you outside and you have to watch through the window. Time slows down, slower than ever. You look away. The beeping stops and you can’t help yourself. You run into the room, screaming his name. You’re pleading him, asking him to come back.
“Please! Don’t leave me here, Jairus! I need you now! More than ever! Don’t leave me!” Tears are pouring out. “I love you so much! Please, bebe!” You’re crying harder than you’ve ever cried before. “Please?” You let out. Other doctors are holding you back from him. You’ve given up fighting them and you fall to the floor. Your face is wet from your continuous tears. You don’t want to stop, you don’t care who’s watching. You just want him back, but you know that’s never going to happen.
A week passes and you get home from his funeral service. You cry yourself to sleep. This happens every night for the next year. When you marry, all you can think about on your honeymoon night is being with Jairus. You thought this would be him, spending the rest of your life with. You promised him you’d never fall in love with anyone else, and you haven’t. Jairus still owns your heart and he will always.
