Chapter 21: Life is a Highway

It was 5 minutes after the concert and the guys were packing up the bus, while I walked around. I grabbed my suitcase full of clothes from the backstage lounge and walked back to the bus. What was I thinking? This cant possibly work. I hadn't even thought this out completely. Bennette didn't know I was coming and probably talked to mom the other day. She had to have mentioned that I was going to our aunt's house to live with her. Dang, I hadn't thought this out at all! The only way that I could actually pull this off is if... I didn't bother to finish that thought as I dialed Carrie, Bennette's wife, and one of my biggest life mentors. "Why, hello there peach! I haven't heard from you in a while! How've you been?" she said sweetly. " If I tell you something, can you keep it a secret?" I asked hopefully. "Anytime! What happened? Are you okay?" I took a deep breathe and answered, "Carrie, I'm fine, I just... need help." She must have sensed the intensity in my voice because she responded with the same amount, "Kiera, what I have to do?" I knew I could rely on her. She listened carefully as I explained what had happened these past few days. "This isn't smart, Ki, and you know it. I could get arrested for helping you like this. You are technically running away, you know that right?" Oh no. She couldn't seriously be having second thoughts on helping me right? "You're lucky I love you, kid" she said after a long pause. I sighed in relief. "So you'll talk to Benny about me living with you guys?" I said, hoping she agrees."Whoa whoa, I never said yes to that! But, now that you mention it, it would be fun to live with my favorite girl" she replied and I can tell she smiles. "THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!" I screamed and as I do, Matt walked past and looked at me like I was insane. I hung up the phone and ran the rest of the way to the bus and spotted Hunter outside holding his phone to his ear. As soon as he spotted me, he put the phone down and yells, "Kiera! Just in time! I was just calling you. Where've you been?" "Just walking around" I said smiling. Well, it wasn't a lie, just not the whole truth.
