Just looking at the baby grand piano in the center of the room brought back memories from that night 6 months ago. Its midnight black color contrasted sharply with the stark whiteness of the room. I remembered exactly what the ivory keys felt like under my fingers whenever I had used to play. Now I couldn't even look at a piano without getting tears in my eyes as those memories were brought to the forefront of my mind.
6 months ago was when I lost everything including my parents, my twin brother Aaron, and I had to move halfway across the country to go stay with my uncle, Josh.
Aaron and I were exactly alike from our straight honey blonde hair to our blue green eyes. We both had the same button type nose and long eyelashes. We even liked the same foods. The only thing that was different was the fact that I learned piano by ear, meaning I had to hear it before I learned it, where as Aaron had to physically see the sheet of music.
He was my best friend not just my twin brother. But that all disappeared on the night of our last recital.
*~FLASHBACK~*
"You guys did so awesome!" my mom said enthusiastically from the front seat where she had turned around to look at us. "We kicked a$$!" Aaron shouted. "Aaron, what have I said about cussing?" my dad scolded.
We were coming back from our last recital where I had taken 1st this time and Aaron had taken a close 2nd. Our scores were always close and we usually got first and second place just because we were so good. But that came from practising for about 4 hours a day everyday. We both wanted to be professional piano players when we got older so we worked hard to make our dream come true. No matter how many parties we didn't go to or how many times we would say no to being asked out on a date.
We still had about 2 hours left until we made it home that night, but that was fine with me I could sleep on the way there so I wouldn't be so tired for school tomorrow. I had done my homework on the way up there because I knew I would be too tired on the way back hone tonight.
I had just dozed off when I heard the squeal of tires and saw the bright headlights coming right towards us...
*~END OF FLASHBACK~*
Til this day almost 6 months later I haven't sat down at a piano. I can barely stand to look at one without feeling the sharp stab of pain from loosing my parents and brother. So the question is; What the hell am I doing at one of the most prestigious music schools in the country?
