Three friends decided to enjoy their spring break in one of the most oddest of fashions. They decided to go on a hiking trip. They all decided who would be in charge of what and when that was decided they set out for the desired location. It was a tiring and perilous journey but it would not break their enthusiasm.
Upon arriving at their destination they felt energy and motivation and had half a mind to continue. However, one of them was still thinking straight and he decided to stay the night and start the hike first thing in the morning. He got the agreement of one of them but the third friend was stubborn as anything. He refused to waste any more time, so he got into his hiking gear and set out into the night.
Leaving their friend alone was not an option but the exhaustion of the drive took over and they set up camp.
They regretted that decision.JACK
He was keeping up a good pace as he climbed up the mountain. There was enough moonlight to see anything and everything! Why wouldn't those two lazy guys come? Jack shrugged and kept on climbing. It was fun for the first ten minutes or so after that he started to feel a strange darkness around the trees. More than that he felt that he was seeing more trees than there were in the beginning. Thinking about this for not more than a second he dismissed it as his mind playing tricks on him. He kept on trekking and could feel the darkness pulsating around him. Every now and then he would hear the faint sound of raking laughter. It was a while before he reached the ledge from where he had a full view of the camp below. He looked down and thought to himself that he should go back. After a minute of thought he convinced himself.
SNAP!
Jack turned around and saw...ASH
He knew they shouldnt have let Jack go alone but they were his friends and they knew it. If Jack wanted to do something only Jack could dissuade him. Feeling rather sad he changed into his nightclothes and curled up in the sleeping bag.
He had only been asleep for an hour maybe when he awoke to a bloodcurling scream. The thing that was bloodcurling was not the scream it was the voice that made that scream. In an instant Ash made up his mind, he got up changed into his hiking clothes and got out of the tent. He hesitated as to whether he should wake Harvey up but then shook his head and went on.
It's just Jack fooling around or maybe it was an animal that made that noise Ash kept on saying to himself. Though, no matter how hard he tried to convince himself he could not help but say that the voice belonged to Jack.
No.
Belongs to Jack, he is still alive and i will find him. Determined to bring his friend back in one piece Ash set off completely oblivious to the darkness surrounding him.JACK
...Nothing. The place was empty. Jack stood still for a while and after counting till a hundred he let out his breath. He knocked himself on the head for being so dramatic and continued his descent. On the way back he found the markers he left behind and easily made his way down. After a few minutes he realised something that made him sweat. He noticed a tree that was visible before and now the same tree was here again. He continued walking and surely after every minute he saw the same tree. Feeling disconcerted he made the biggest mistake of his life; he looked directly at the tree and moved towards it. After taking a few steps towards the tree he felt himself rooted to the spot!
CRACK!
A twig snapped as he turned around and got the air blown out of him as a force stronger than anything he had ever felt before knocked him down. He felt liquid streaming down his legs and smelled the faint odour of iron. He forced himself to get up but found out something even more horrifying.
He couldn't feel his legs anymore.
Silence.
He looked at the tree again and this time his heart stopped.
The tree looked back.HARVEY
It was such a beautiful forest. The trees felt like they were almost touching the sky as if reaching out for the sun's warmth. The grass felt like the one he saw once growing around the Queen's palace ages ago when he visited England. The smell was absolutely intoxicating. Pine mixed with the smell of multiple flowers. He felt like taking a nap next to the tree. It looked so welcoming, as if it was stretching it's branches towards him to nestle in. What's the harm? He asked himself as he rested against the trunk and felt himself losing consciousness.
He has been asleep for maybe a few minutes when he heard the sound of footsteps. He opened his eyes and looked towards the source. It took him a second to recognize that ridiculous haircut. It was Ash! Oh did that bastard find this serene spot too? Ah well what can I do I'll share it with him, he told himself. Ash walked right past him as if he didn't see him!? That's weird usually he'd take the first chance to antagonize me over anything, Why'd he just walk past me as if I wasn't there?
Sleep was stronger than his curiosity so he drifted away back into his slumber.
