Indigo woke up early the next day and searced the library for the natives of jalest. It took about three hours but she finally found it. Reading the words silently to herself she suddenly dropped the book on the floor in shock. Indigo had been prepared for anything from something more beautiful than a succubus or some as ugly as a toad stool troll who had been rotting for three hundred years. But this? She was shocked and quickly put the book back up on the shelf and quickly left the library.
In her hast to leave she bumped into something solid and she was sent flying back onto her but and the chains clinked against the floor. Indigo had self defence training so she was wear legging pant type things a chain skirt, just to keep up the girlish image, a long sleeved shirt with padding over her abdomin and the veil that fashioned and twisted around her neck.
"Oh indigo I'm sorry i didn't see you i was actually on my way to find you." Social Repose said bending over to help indigo back up.
"Oh whatever for?" indigo asked brushing herself off.
"I was hoping to walk you to your class this morning." social repose said tipping his hand out.
Indigo cringed. She may have been expected to go to lessons and participate but that didn't mean she went. She just looked like she did. Indigo made a strange noise then said "How about i show you something instead."
"What is something?"social repose asked skeptically.
"Something amazing. I promise." indigo said laughing. She grabbed social reposes hand and froze for an instant.
No one else would have thought about it. Infact Indigo's mind was anywhere else too but this a huge moment in her life. Never had she ever felt another humans touch. While she was a child she was always completely covered and every time she had potential to be hurt some magical being interfered and she didn't need help from her parents. Every time since then she had gloves on to look the part of the dutiful princess. This though seemed exhilarating, it wasn't rough like the shimmery skin of fairys or bumpy like the dwarfs and gnomes, not soft like trolls or the other types of fae. It was smooth and warm and she would be lying if she said she didn't like it.
Indigo pulled social repose all the way out of the castle and towards the Forrest. They got to the edge before indigo stopped suddenly. She couldn't go in with the veil on. It was against magical law to hide your face in the enchanted forest. Social Repose couldn't see her with her veil off. That was a rule she made, the half magic in her made her look odd and she had never seen anyone that looked remotely like her.
Indigo, after a moment, said "You have to do something for me. And you can't disobey any word i say alright?"
"Anything for something amazing." social repose said softly.
"Alright." indigo grabbed social reposes hands and said "close your eyes. You can't peek or open them until i say so." once his eyes were closed indigo unwrapped the trails of cloth from around her neck and then unpopped the two buttons that kept it in place. Slowly indigo dragged the veil off her head and dropped it on the ground letting her long hair tumble down around her shoulders. She grabbed his hands once again and led him deep into the woods until she found the tree.
As usual the tree was very much alive and the fairys poured out of it in beautiful dancing swirls. Indigo let go of social reposes hands and hid behind the tree. Once she thought she was safe she whispered "open your eyes." in most logical ways social repose should not have heard her but this was not logical. Here a simple small whisper could be heard over the loudest yell.
Social Repose opened his eyes and looked in awe around him. Gold and blue spirals of dust danced around him. Indigo giggled and instantly regret it. Social Repose looked up to see her, he couldn't find her.
Indigo took a deep breath hoping he wouldn't try to find her. Much to her distaste he did.
"Indigo why are you back there?" he asked.
"Hiding." said Indigo.
"From what?" social repose pushed.
"Reality." she said.
"Why?" he cocked his head rounding the tree as she slunk back into darkness.
"What rumours did you hear about my face?" Indigo asked quietly.
"That it was the most beautiful thing in all the realms and that it could start wars for your hand. Thats why you cover it, to keep peace." social repose responded taking a step forward and she took one back.
"No one except for me, the fae, and my parents- only for an hour after i was born- has ever seen my face. All of that is a lie." indigo said taking two steps back for his two forward. She was almost out of the dark side and the light started to hit her hair. "Please don't come any closer." Indigo said panicked.
Social Repose stopped moving and took a step back. It was so strange that someone would do that if they could have kept walking and seen her close up. "You did that rather easily." she said in awe.
"As i said before. Anything for something amazing." he responded in a quiet tone.
Indigo had a strange urge suddenly. "Close your eyes again." she whispered. He did so. Indigo took the three steps that were between them and placed her arms around social repose.
Indigo had gotten hugs before. But this seemed more intimate.
Indigo's head fit perfectly on social reposes chest and her arms were comfortably sat around his waist.
Social Repose was surprised. But none the less he wrapped his arms around her. One hand placed on the small of her back and the other on the back of her head where he played with her hair a little.
After a moment indigo let go and took a step back. "How well can you keep a secret?" she asked.
"For you? Forever." he said back his eyes still shut tightly.
"What type of secret can you have that will keep the weight of one i have to give?" indigo asked
Social Repose thought for a moment before he answered "My real name under Catholic law is Richard lional Giese the fourth. But most people couldn't keep that mouth full straight so everyone called me little Richie." social repose said and indigo snorted.
"I don't believe that measures up to my secret." Indigo said crossing her arms.
"Alright. If i do believe your secret is worth it i will tell even deeper darker secrets." social repose said with a smile.
"Alright step forward until you reach my hand." indigo said. You would believe that someone like indigo would put up more of a fight to save the secret she kept safe for so long but in her mind this was more of a social experiment. If this guy she met only twenty-four hours priar could keep her secret and mot flip out from what she looked like then maybe she could find someone who wouldn't mind the oddity and fall in love and live life as a princess in peace with her prince.
For every step social repose took she took one back until she was in the light and held out her hand. Social Repose stumbled until he felt her cool fingers lace through his.
"Open your eyes." indigo said softly
Social Repose did as he was told and stared in awe at the girl standing infront of him. "Now that's something amazing." he muttered to himself. He marveled at indigo and her skin the seemed so white it glowed and sparkled in the light. She had long hair that tumbled in curls and waves of green and her familys natrual black. On her face were black markings that didn't make sence in any human language and her eyes. Those drew the most attention from him. One was blue just like her entire family and the other was this neon violet color that took over her entire eye. And her lips, so red blood was envious of the color. In social reposes mind, she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen before. "I killed the woman who slit my sister throat when i turned fifteen. After that i went on a killing spree to kill every native in my land i failed in my mission when i came across a child. I had never seen native children but once i did i couldn't see anything wrong with the world anymore. For a year i lived with them then one day i couldn't remember them just suddenly one day my memory was wiped. I remember the kid though. She had green eyes and long white hair. She was seven back then. And i have spent ten years searching for her. For the missing answers." Social Repose said.
"Why are you telling me this?" asked indigo her eyebrows knit together.
"I told you I'd repay you with deeper darker secrets if i saw fit. With a face as lovely as yours i saw it fit." he said and a small smile began to grow on his face.
"I am looking for another mermaid. I have spent twenty two years just searching. I understand. I would like to help you find this girl. If you'll let me." Indigo said twisting her fingers through the ends of her hair.
There was a moment of silence before social repose reached out his hand and took one of Indigo's hands and said in response "then i shall look for a mermaid with you." suddenly two very large smiles emerged on their faces.
