Kaneki sat down on the supple couch in the employee break room and heaved a great big sigh as he sipped some freshly brewed coffee. It's warm, thick steam pushed at his face as it's mesmerizing aroma pooled his senses. The mellifluous chirping of the birds outside rang through his ears and the muted chatter of the customers added to it. His coffee cup made a clang as he set it down and scratched his cheek in thought. "This coffee is good and it distracts me from the gnawing hunger in my stomach but it's no use. It won't hold it back forever and I'll starve to death if I don't go insane first. I'll have to get used to eating human flesh eventually or else I won't have even a chance of surviving as a ghoul. But I just can't bring myself to--" His thoughts were interrupted by the squeaky creak of the door as dark violet hair caught his attention. Touka. The sun caught her flashy hair and frowning face and for a moment Kaneki felt dazzled by the beauty of her face. Just for a moment... " 'The hell are you doing here?" She snorted as she crossed her arms and flipped her head sassily in the other direction.
"U-umm...sorry. You see, I-I'm on my break." He stuttered. He wasn't surprised by her tone. She always talked to him like that. "I guess I find that cute about her..." He mused. "Are you also on your break Touka?" He managed to ask.
"Huh, well obviously." She answered. Walking over to the couch, she threw herself on it, kicking her legs on top of it while keeping her arms crossed. Glancing over at his coffee she asked him, "Is there any more of that?".
"O-oh that?! Yea, I'll pour you some." He blurted as he leaped off the couch and rushed to pour her the coffee. He tried to look calm and casual even though strangely enough, he felt awkward and lightheaded being alone in the same room with her. "Why am I so nervous?!?" He frantically thought to himself. Gently setting the coffee down on the table in front of her, he glanced quickly at her face. Their eyes met and they stared at each other for a moment, both of them completely spellbound before she jerked her head away in embarrassment and growled,
" D-Don't look at me like that you creep!"
" S-s-sorry!" He whimpered before he walked to the other side of the room, pretending to do something, turned away from her, and utterly abashed from what had just happened. " Why'd I do that?!? I'm so stupid, I should've just kept my head down! Now she probably hates me even more now, great!" He thought hysterically.
" So how are things at Anteiku going for you so far?" Touka's hushed, soft voice surprised him.
" Huh? O-Oh, umm that? It's pretty good I guess. Everybody's really nice and supportive a-and I don't think I would've even survived to this point if it wasn't for you guys..." he shyly yet cheerfully responded as he turned around and flashed her a smile, while scratching his cheek. Her light purple eyes widened for a second as her cheeks turned a rose red, only to turn away right after.
" W-whatever, it's n-nothing really special to what we usually do anyway... We're just going by our policy here at Anteiku..." She insisted.
" Huh? Policy?" He questioned.
" We help every ghoul in need obviously, if you haven't noticed yet." She puffed.
" That's a good policy then, but nevertheless it's special to me and I'll never forget it," He smiled again as he tilted his head sideways slightly when she returned his gaze with wide, wonder struck eyes. " Besides, helping those in need, it's one of the best things you can do!" His smile widened to the brim as he closed his eyes gleefully. "We could all use a more positive view on life..." He pondered. Touka's cheeks turned an even rosier shade this time and she mumbled,
" I-I guess..." Avoiding his gaze now, " Sh-shouldn't you be getting back to work now?"
" Huh?" He retorted dumbfounded as he glanced at the large clock on the wall over the threshold. Shock grabbed him, making him realize he was almost late to his next shift. Rushing to get his apron he zoomed out. " You're right, thanks! It was nice talking to you, see you later!" He yelled back at her as he raced out, only to freeze at the doorway as he was thinking back on the awkward moments between them. His heart began to beat incredibly fast and butterflies formed in his stomach. "What is this feeling?!" He thought, flustered.
" What?" Touka growled. He blushed, embarrassed at the realization of what he was feeling and ran out the door, abashed once again and scrambling the word,
" N-n-nothing!" back at Touka. " Not possible! It can't be! I can't possibly b-be i-i-in l-l..." He hectically thought to himself as he put on
his apron. Brushing his thoughts away, he began his shift.••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Hello!(^-^)/ If you for some reason happen to be reading this I want to say that I probably won't continue this story (sorry if you happened to like it ('Д' ).....) I'll probably start writing Oneshots since I don't have to do a continuous story (which for some reason I'm not able to handle due to laziness and lack of ideas..)
