The shuttle reached an altitude of thirty thousand feet and the ramp started to lower. Anthrax looked out over the unfamiliar landscape of The Confederacy. It was flat and lightly wooded. Large tracks had been cleared for crops. The country was bisected by an enormous river that ran from a two hundred mile long lake to the north to the coast that wrapped around two sides of the Region. Along the length of the river swampland spread out on both sides for over a hundred miles. Jumping out into the cold air, she spread her wings and headed for the surface. Above her the other shuttle slowly descended careful to stay out of sight.

As she glided in slow large circles she studied the landscape deciding where to go first. On one side of the swamp the ravages of war spread out as far as she could see, on the other the countryside looked pristine. Towns of various sizes dotted the landscape. Oddly everyone had three buildings in common, a building in a cross shape with a steeple coming out the center, a building with a large bell tower made of stone or brick decorated with columns, and finally a red wooden building with a small bell tower in the front with children playing outside.

It looked peaceful and like a good place to start offering her skills. In the beginning, she thought she'd just go from town to town offering her skills as a doctor. Everyone needed medical care. Landing in a field several miles away, she started walking.

Clyde held on for dear life. The idea that a sheet was enough to keep you from falling to your death didn't sit well with him. His men had gotten a good laugh out of it on the shuttle ride down. Now, as they approached the ground, they were all business which included keeping him alive.

The ground came up faster than he anticipated. Rolling like Bruce had shown him, he hit so hard he was sure he'd jarred some teeth loose. Silently, he wondered how the maneuver was supposed to help lessen the impact of landing.

Quickly he got up and started digging a hole to get rid of the parachutes while his men gathered them up. They were made out of the invisible cloth, but they didn't want to take the chance of some fool discovering them by accident. Kita had been explicit that any technology they couldn't bring back was to be destroyed beyond recognition.

The parachutes disposed of, they started to dig into their packs and pull out the rest of their camouflage equipment. Everything they had was covered in the invisible material. After dawning his gloves and mask, he pulled out his rifle and checked it. Next, he checked his revolver, knife, and the rest of his kit. When he was satisfied, he shrugged the 100 pound pack on and turned to see if his men were ready. They were ready and waiting on him. Silently Clyde muttered under his breath.
