Anthrax looked at the soldiers and legionnaires digging in a few miles from the fort. The general explained it was all to delay the enemy until the ships arrived. The fort itself was low and made of stone. It held ancient ballista's and catapults, with ample room for archers. The Legion now had men with light rifles stationed in their place.
The dismounted and hurried into the general's makeshift headquarters. His staff was neat, organized, and precise. A map on the wall showed how bad it was. A large red blob was moving toward the city they'd just left. A small arm was headed for them.
"What can we do to help you?" Anthrax asked.
"For the most part to be seen. All of my men know of Kita. I think any woman with wings will help bolster moral. I take it you can fight?"
"I'm not really a hand to hand type. I'm a doctor and my skills lean to that."
Clyde coughed.
Anthrax sighed, "And I produce a highly lethal biological agent that can wipe out hundreds in minutes. But I have fly low and slow to do it and it makes us easy pickings for snipers."
The general mulled something over in his mind, "Anthrax...anthrax, the ancient biological agent from old Earth? You're named after it?"
Anthrax nodded.
"Did Kita pick it for you?"
She nodded again.
"Sounds like her."
"Well will build moral than maybe your men can help us out in any way they can."
"Large scale battlefield tactics isn't our thing. We're for small scale hit and run engagements and intel gathering. The best well be here is sniping." Clyde replied.
"If you kill a tank commander you basically render the tank useless. Snipers are not something I've had the pleasure of using. I would very much like to turn the tables on them."
He nodded thoughtfully.
"Excuse me General? We have The Orient on the line. Voice only." A legionnaire called from across the room.
"Finally, getting communications up has been a nightmare."
"Hello? Lee?"
"Yes, well things are getting to be a little bothersome. I'm calling to find out when the ships will arrive. We're in the fort on the north side of the bay near New Charlotte."
There was a long pause.
"What do you mean you don't know anything? Isn't that what the commanders are discussing now?"
