Lilias' Journal
Unofficial First Year, after the FestivalToday I am starting two journals. One is my own Crystal Chronicle, and the other is a... book of stories, so to say. One work of fiction, and the other a record of all that has and will happen after I leave with the caravan. I was recently given the Crystal Chronicle of the previous storyteller, which was a little early by traditional standards, but to see what she had written is such an inspiration. Her Chronicle tells of all the places they visited on their quest for myrrh, the caravans they met on the roads and what happened... It's fascinating to read.
But my own reason for starting this journal now isn't just to help me get out my excitement. Today I saw a myrrh tree for the first time.
The tree was much taller than any of us, and it seemed very bearly like a crystal. But unlike the crystals of town which drive away miasma and monstrosities, a myrrh tree attracts them. Yet it is myrrh which renews the crystals, the most mysterious thing of all in our world. The drop of myrrh from the tree seemed to be a much smaller anount than what appeared in the chalice afterward. But all the puzzles about its nature aside, the myrrh tree was breathtaking. It has a quality about it nearly impossible to describe. It seems other worldly. Even the drop of myrrh seems to defy gravity and floats down at uts own will. When you're standing at the base of the tree, there's bo feeling like it anywhere else in the world. I see now why the caravanners who came before me couldn't describe it effectively. There are no words for it.
