I listened as my parents fought, that's all they ever seemed to do. I could hear their shouts of anger through the walls at each other. I wanted to break down and cry but I realized that did me no good, instead I turned on music to help block out the sounds. A sweet melody filled my ears and helped me let go of the real world and float into one of mine own. One where everyone was always happy, no one fought, and we all smiled. I studied tentatively while my music played, I was trying to get into Seoul University and to do that I'll have to get really good grades. That made me think of an old friend of mine, his name was Seungcheol. He was like an older brother to me, he always made sure I studied through out elementary and middle school. He kept his eye on me and whenever my parents fought he would take me out to get icecream or just walk through the nearby park. Unfortunately he moved away just before I entered high school, he's 2 years my senior. I was never able to get his number and so I never talked to him after that day when he left me. It made me sad to think I may never see him again, as far as I knew he was in Seoul which is where I want to be. I often wonder what he's up to these days, he's probably in college by now studying diligently like he did when we were younger. I missed him.
3 Months Later
I was in Seoul, finally. I haven't yet been accepted into Seoul University but I had to get out of the house. Finally being legal I went to Seoul in search of an apartment. I was an adult now which meant I was to start living on my own, I already acquired a job at a café. I walked about Seoul and then I heard music, it sounded like a new boy group. I gravitated towards the sound, it drew me in and I just couldn't get away. As I reached the crowd I had a hard time getting a look at the guys on stage, I could tell there were quite a few of them and that was it. I snaked my way through the crowd to get a better look, as I did I saw him. Seungcheol. I felt like crying. He didn't notice me and I felt like waiting until after he was done performing to try to talk to him, after they preformed a really amazing song I ran as fast as I possibly could to him I shouted out "SEUNGCHEOL!" He turned around to see me he dropped everything he was holding and then held out his arms for me. I crashed into him and sobbed into his chest. He stroked my hair gently and when I finally pulled away I smiled brightly at him and he smiled back.
"I missed you Seungcheol Oppa." I say to him he wiped the tears on my face and then replied.
"I missed you too Jaehi. Have you been staying out of trouble?" I nodded enthusiastically, he gave a chuckle. "Good girl." I looked around him to see twelve guys looking at us, I quickly ducked back behind Seungcheol.
"They're all staring." I say quietly, he turns around and waves the guys over. They all come over and huddle around us.
"Everyone this is a very dear friend of mine, her name is Kim Jaehi and I want you all to be as respectful as possible towards her. She means everything to me." A boy pipes up.
"Hi my name is Dino! I'm 16 and the makanae of the group." He holds out his hand to me and I accept it and shake it.
"Jaehi. I'm 18."
"Wow so your older, can I call you noona?" I smile and give a nod. He gives a small shout "Oh my gosh Scoups hyung she's so cute!!" I look away shyly.
"I know she's cute which I why all of you better keep your hands to yourselves." He looks over all the guys and they give a nod. One by one they introduce themselves.
Vernon, Woozi, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, The8, DK, Seungkwan, Hoshi, Mingyu, and Wonwoo. They all are attractive and funny. Seungcheol invites me out to dinner with them and I accept.
We go out to a Korean BQQ place and stuff our faces. They're all very happy people, I wish I could always be around them.
"Jaehi Noona how long have you known our hyung?" Dino had asked me. I swallowed the food in my mouth.
"Hmm, since I was 5. He was 7 at the time, he's always been like an older brother to me." I say.
"Wow! You've known him for so long! Hey Noona do you have a boyfriend?" Seungcheol chokes on his food a bit and Jeonghan gives him a hit on the back.
"Aha no I don't, I've never taken the time to date." Seungcheol gives a sigh of relief. Next to me Vernon speaks.
"You don't look fully Korean." I look at him a give a nod.
"That's right my mother is American." He gives a nod like he understands.
"So is mine. But culturally I'm more Korean."
"Hmm well I was born here in Korea and I've lived here all my life so I understand what you mean. I do speak English fluently though. I had to learn for the occasional trips to the states." Just then Joshua pipes up in English.
"Oh really? Where in the US does your family live?" We have our entire conversation in English so the others are left in awe.
"LA. Most of them at least." He gives a great big smile.
"That's awesome, that's where I'm from."
"Really? So cool!" We smile at each other and exchange a laugh. The night goes one like this the boys asking me questions and me responding telling them of my life and about Seungcheol Oppa as a kid.
When we finish our dinner I'm a bit sad. I didn't want to say goodbye I was having so much fun. Seungcheol walks up to me.
"Hey Jaehi I'm going to take you home, I don't want you out alone at night." Then I realized I don't have a place to stay. My suit case was with me I looked over to it and so did he. He saw and then nodded.
"Actually you should come stay with me." I look to him, he seems really sincere.
"Is that okay?" He gives a nod.
"Of course, now come on we have to start heading back. I grab my bag and then follow the boys out. Suddenly my bag is taken from my grasp and as I whip around I see Joshua. I try to take it back but he refuses.
"Let me carry it, it's no big deal." After a minute I give in and let him take it from me.
We all walked back to their dorm, I looked around at the boys, all 13 of them were incredibly nice and happy. I was going to be staying here with them.
