Tris' POV

Once my dull, blonde hair was tied behind my ears, the girls got to work. Christina opened her bag and removed a bag full of what seemed to be torture weapons! I mean how do people actually use these things? Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally clueless when it comes to all things makeup, but the type of stuff that Christina was carrying would have scared anyone. There were pens and pencils of all colours and textures.

"You're not going to make me pretty." I warned Chris, hoping that she'd stop and let me leave in peace; but the look she gave me said otherwise.

"Nonsense, Tris. You are obviously out of your mind. Every guy in this school hasn't be able to take their eyes off of you since you arrived. You've definitely made an impression." The way she said it, it seemed like it was neither a good thing or bad, so I left my mouth shut and left her alone.

Throughout the whole process, Christina was bossing the other girls around, telling them what things to pick up and how to use them on my face. She sounded as if she were a surgeon, and I were the patient. The thought made me shudder and earnt a "keep still" from Chris. I rolled my eyes slightly and took a peek into the mirror. I gasped to myself and saw Chris and the other girls smirking into the mirror back at me.

"You like it?" Asked Shauna. I simply nodded and began to admire their work. My eyes were darker, more hollowed out. It emphasised the sky blue in my eyes and not the grey, this made them pop. I looked striking and liked it. My lips were a pale, barely noticeable pink shade, but they looked smoother, the years of chewing on them in nervous habit; unrecognisable. They'd also managed to put some life into my ghostly skin. It was nice to look like I hadn't just woken up from the dead for once. However, this would draw attention that I certainly didn't want - especially from Lauren and her friends.

"Guys, this is wonderful, but-"

"'But' nothing, okay? You look hot." Christina concludes, ending the discussion and leaving no room for further argument.

"Yeah, Tris. It was hard working making your lifeless exterior look even slightly presentable." Lynn says, a smug look on her face as she tops up her black lipstick.

"My face couldn't have nearly looked as cold as your heart is." I accidentally say out loud. My eyes widen as I quickly turn around to take it back.

"Hey! The Stiff's got attitude!" She says, looking surprisingly impressed. She then turns to Christina with a convinced look. "I think I'm gonna like this chick."

"Okay, okay. Can we discuss this over lunch? I'm starving!" Marlene complains. We all agree and make our way to the cafeteria.

Four's POV

I was just nearing the end of my meal, when the doors to the cafeteria are pushed wide open. The noise alone was enough to make me turn my head, but as soon as my eyes were over there, I was glad that I looked. Stood there was Christina, Shauna, Lynn, Marlene, and... Tris?

"What are you looking... Woah." said Uriah next to me once he looked to the door. I could see that he was staring at the same person I was and let me tell you, it wasn't his girlfriend right now. It was Tris. Her hair was tied back, the ponytail flowing like a golden waterfall from the top of her head. Her eyes were a colour that was sure to catch the attention of anyone and anything. They were so strong, that I found it hard to take my eyes off of her. I could see every other boy by now had turned to face Tris and look at what had happened to her.  She began to blush from all of the attention and I found it quite entertaining. She was so striking and she didn't even realise it.

Once Tris had, had enough Christina and the other girls led their way through the middle of the canteen; Tris followed behind. They were heading for a table, my table. And I'd been a complete idiot I her before because I was in a bad mood... Looks like I've got some making up to do!

Once the girls got to our table, Christina, Shauna, and Marlene all went to sit next to their boyfriends while Tris and Lynn sat next to each other at the end of the table. I was sat in the middle of Will and Zeke, meaning I was practically fifth-wheeling their unscheduled double date. I saw Tris smiling at me apologetically, causing me to smirk back. She was cute - definitely not the most pretty girl in school, but something about her was intriguing and it seemed to dull everyone else's prettiness.

"Oh, Tris!" I heard Shauna say, cutting off my thoughts. "This is my boyfriend, Zeke."

"Hi." Tris said softly, a gentle smile on her face. Yep, definitely cute. Zeke smiled back in return, giving her a little salute in response.

"So, first day and you're already making enemies. I'm not sure whether to congratulate you or start organising your funeral." Uriah jokes.

"I-I didn't m-mean to. I-It was an accident." Tris splutters out, clearly not understanding Uriah's humour. I see Shauna kick Uriah under the table, causing him to yelp out.

"Don't worry, Tris. It was just a joke. Besides, Lauren isn't exactly the worst enemy to have. She's all talk." Marlene assures her. She nods, but Christina catches our attention with a snort.

"Lauren's not the worst enemy Tris could make, but Four is." Christina says, glaring at me. Damn it! She said she would get me back for that! Now all this lot are going to turn on me!

"Hang on. What?" Will says, looking between me and Tris.

"He made Tris move seat in English class and then called her out in front of everyone. All she did was sit next to me." Christina growls, narrowing get eyes.

"Four!" Shauna exclaims, reaching across Zeke to hit me.

"Wait, it wasn't just his fault. I retaliated, so it makes me just as bad." Tris says. She turns so she's looking directly at me and I feel like I might pass out. She may not be pretty, but she has her own kind of beauty that's too intense for me to handle. By the looks of it, so do all of the other guys on my table too.
"I'm really sorry for what happened earlier." I simply stare at her face for a few minutes, before I feel a slight kick coming from Christina's side of the table. Oh god. They've caught me. Tris' glance hadn't wavered from my face the whole time, her eyes hidden by her thick lashes.

"Don't mention it, I was being a dick."  As soon as the words leave my lips I walk out of the canteen, with a small blush appearing on my cheeks, before I make a bigger idiot of myself.
